I was also wondering will the 2ghz processor be to loud to use in class? Should I get the lower 1.86ghz? Also what does the TV tuner do and it is internal right? Will it need an antenna? Lastly is the wsxga the best screen to go with? Thanks for all the help guys!!!!

Check out the 750 off coupon, I think they have one next Monday.
The 2GHz will not be too loud, most of the time it will probably run at about 600 Mhz any, unless you plan to play games in class.
I think the TV tuner is external, it is pretty big, dont't get it.

What about the screen? Is the wsxga better than the wuxga for this 15.4" screen? Also I want to order it with 512mb 1 dimm so that i can upgrade it myself by adding another 512mb making it 1gb. how hard is this to do can i do it myself and where should I buy it, I heard corsair was the best? Lastly does anyone else know anymore info about the TV tuner? Thanks again!
-
Can I get some more comments from you guys. I'm looking to buy today and would like to hear some feedback.

Sorry to keep asking the same question but no one has answered it yet . What screen would be best for the 15.4" the wsxga or the wuxga? Also are all the processors about the same as far as fan nouse? Thanks again!
-
You will definately need a microscope to read anything from the WUXGA on a 15 inch. Also, you can upgrade to a 4 year warranty from the 3 year and actually get money back because of a mail-in rebate. I wouldn't go for the 2Ghz, it isn't worth the upgrade price. Also I'm pretty sure the TV tuner is external. You would probably be better off getting the ATI USB Wonder. Also, NewEgg.com has some transcend ram for a pretty good price that a lot of people here have used.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the wireless section of this site and noticed a big problem. It seems as though guys are having problems connecting with the wireless with the intel 2200 and the 2915 wireless cards. This is a big problem cause the laptop will be connected 95% of the time it is in use. Do I have any other options?

I have my 6000 for about 3 weeks now. I got the 1.6GHz, 80 gig HD, 512MB and RWCD-DVD and extra 9 cell battery for $820 shipped. Look for the 1000 redemptions.
I want to comment on the screen. Do you have good eyesight? I wear
-11(thats minus 11) contact lens. My glasses are like COKE drink bottoms.
At 1680x1050, I get bloodshot eyes. They are so tiny. I have to settle for less and I have to use 1280x800. Remember if you are not in native resolution, the screen will not be sharp. In my case, I still think it looks OK. -
for the price of your system its pretty good, although you can go way under by knocking off some of those components, the WSUXGA is a bit over the top, stick with the WSXGA+, the tv tuner, in a way, is rather useless for a laptop more along the lines of a desktop replacement(a 'top meant to be used more at home that on the road), than a thin n light, and the processor is a bit much, 1.6 seems to handle what the majority of 6000 customers throw at it. But if you need/want all that, th price seems fair. cause considering your adding like 300 for the 2.0 processor, another 200 for the media stuff, that would make the rest of the system around 1,100.
Dell Inspirion 6000 Custom paintjob on the way!
-128 ATI X300
-1GB Memory
-60@7200 Hard drive
-15.4 WSGXA+
-DVD Burner
All for 1,018 bucks! -
Can the $1,000 redemption be used with say the 34% off promotion? I'm getting the price listed above becuase of the 34% off and plus the additional 12% for ordering it through my school. they way I figure it the upgrade from the 1.6 to the 2.0 is $231 and I'm getting 46% total off so the upgrade is only costing me a little over $115. It seems worth it right? I have decided to ditch the tv tuner, since I'm a student should i upgrade to xp professional(it's $65)? Me eye sight is not the best but i can see things if they are infront of me, so the Wsxga would be my best bet right? Is it the smart thing for me to get 512mb in 1 dimm? that way I can upgrade to 1gb easier, is there a noticable difference between 512 and 1gb? Lastly what about the wireless issue? Is there one? Thanks again guys. I do apologize if this sounds repetitive but I'm in college and have a little money to spend on a laptop and i want to make sure that what i'm buying is good that will last for a couple of years!!!

Where are you finding these???? The only big deal I know of right now is 750 off.
-
Dell is offering 34% off and I'm getting an additional 12% from dell university program.
-
Ram: yup, smart thing to get 512 mb in 1 dimm, way easier to put extra ram in the external slot than the internal one. Order the labtop with 512, try it out, see if it is too slow for your tasks, you can always upgrade later.
Wireless: There will always be wireless issues, the 2915 is your best bet right now.
The 6000 is a very cost effective solution, I highly recommend it. -
Here is the new configuration that I have come up with, what do you guys think? Is this a good price and would you change the specs?

Is this a good price on the new configuration? Should I change any of the specs? -
I was able to get the 60gig 7200 thru their university site. You have to choose the system with dedicated graphics in order to get the 7200 drive.
On the XP Pro, I really don't notice a difference between it and the home version, but if you are going to be using different networks then it might be beneficial to you. I use Intel ProSet Wireless (which comes with the 2200 and 2915) for all of my network connections, and I like it better than XP Pro. I would get the 2200 unless you'll be using 802.11a instead of b or g.

Is this a good price?
