Well my fiance was on her notebook today and it randomly started to turn pink, green, and loosing all other colors.
I checked it out and its kind of random. It will turn pink and then have green lines and then it will all go away and have not colors.
Here is a video I recorded of what is going on.
Seems to me like it is either a bad connection or the screen is just going out?

I see videos on youtube that make it look like the replacement of the screen isnt too hard.

Any ideas what is going on?

Thanks to any help in advance!

its not the screen...........90% bad GPU...............or a 10% bad circuit on the motherboard.

if it had been the screen, it would appear different.

If I plug it into my TV via HDMI the display is perfect.

I am wondering if I can swap the screen from my Dell Inspiron 1564 with this 15R. Just to see if it actually is the screen.
I pull the screen off to see if the connection was bad but everything seems to be working fine.
Thanks again guys for all the help!

Also is there a way to test the GPU to see if that is actually the problem?

Also I am uploading a couple other videos to show you all. It'll take just a few mins.

If it works fine on the external display, the GPU probably isn't the problem, but it's not guaranteed. I would say it's a screen issue though, and it wouldn't hurt to try swapping the screens. Worst case scenario the screens aren't compatible.

Well I swapped screens and sure enough my screen works perfectly fine on the 15R.
Since she has lots of homework for school I just left mine in hers.
I put the one that was only showing green, pink, and grey in my 1564 inspiron. Turns on fine and once it gets to the login screen it turned all white.
So I just reset the computer to see if that will change anything and it did. Now both screens are working fine...
I am so confused right now. I am thinking of just ordering a new screen just incase this screen goes bad in my 1564.
    Thanks for all the help!

just because the hdmi works to an external screen, you still can can have a normal primary screen)

as i said...................i think its a motherboard swap or gpu.
(and you have a integrated gpu...so the answer (in my eyes) is motherboard swap !!!!

its VERY VERY SELDOM the screen itself breaks...(i never see it in person.....ive seen light bleeds....ive seen some dead pixels....but not like this.....

however, ive seen similar issues, and that time it was the gpu...i had to replace the whole motherboard though)

I've seen this kind of behavior with bad (bent or broken pins) cables on PC's so it could be that reseating the LVDS cables by swapping screens had something to do with fixing it.
Just something to keep in mind so you can perhaps test that as to not buy a new screen for no reason when it happens again.

It could have just been a bad connection somewhere. I don't know if you should worry or not.

My experience has been the opposite, except concerning the entire batch of faulty 2007 to 2009 Nvidia junk.

my last repair was a xps m1530 there the owner had OC the 8600m GT to long and to hard.........the issues was similar to your video (vertical lines jumping around on the screen)

GPUs can fail very slowly so it's perfectly possible that it's just beginning to fail. Since it's working since the swap it may just be a bad connection.

I'd hold off on a new screen unless the problem reoccurs; if it is the GPU it will probably get progressively worse.
