Is this laptop good enough for gaming?

I recently customized a laptop from Dell that I will be ordering in time for college. I mainly chose Dell because of the warranty plan and the 33% off discount that they are offering. I will mainly be using this laptop for school but will want to play some games like WoW and Oblivion. I want to stay with a 15 inch screen and the best graphics card I can get at the time on this computer is the X1400. Do you think this laptop will be good enough to play the games above at decent settings? If not, is it possible to know if the E1505 will be coming out with better graphics cards available like a X1600 or Go7800? Thanks for the help

The X1400 is not really a gaming card. It can but dont expect good frame rates. im guessing its about equal to a nvidia 7300 speed so nothing great.

 

The X1400 is better than the nVIDIA 7300, it's on par with the 7400. It'll play any game out there, but the newest one's will have to have their settings turned down.

 

I meant 7400 i dont know why i put 7300. i wouldnt say it will play every game out there well. its below a X700 so while it will play games on medium its still not a gaming card. and i would not get this laptop to be a gaming machine. So i should have said for light gaming its fine.

 

My son plays WoW using the X1300 and 2gigs of ram with all the setting on high. He does have to turn them down some when hes doing big raids though.

You asked if its a good enough for gaming which, to me like your asking if its a good gaming laptop? again my x700 is faster than the 1400 probably. But i wouldnt bet it being any good at future games. i can play quake 4 on it. But the framrates do suffer when its on high settings. Its playable but not the best experience. I was just trying to say to be concidered a gaming laptop it would need at least a x1600.

These are the recomended specs for oblivion

These are some benchmarks for obilvion. While its not accurate for your case since they are putting the settings all on high. It runs pretty slow for the high end cards they are using. This game is pretty intensive.

He should be able to play Oblivion on all low settings if he maxes out his RAM. WoW should play just fine on the X1400 as well.

The X1400 isn't a hardcore gaming card, but it should be able to play all games at low settings. I wouldn't totally believe system recommended specs - they just recommend a system, just because a system doesn't meet a reqirement(s), doesn't mean it can't run it at a playable framerate. I got BF2 and AoEIII to run on my old Satellite and it only had a 32MB Nvidia GeForce Go 440 card.

 

I agree but some reviewers of the game said the minimum specs listed were to low for the game to play. wow i have read plays fine on lots of systems. but people are saying in the forums at least to play oblivion well you need at least a 6600 card which is better than the x1400.

 

How well will X1400 handle Windows Vista?

How much more does X1600 cost compared to X1400? Do you think Dell will add X1600 video card to E1505 laptop any time soon?

 

The X1400 should be plenty for Vista. Dell is probably never going to give the X1600 to the E1505 - the E1505's predecessor only had a X300 GPU, which is comparable to the X1400.

 

AMD, how exactly are the X300 and X1400 comparable? The X1400 is an entire class above the X300, the bare minimim of dedicated cards.

Even intel integrated graphics will run vista. You just wont be able to turn on all the eye candy but vista will run fine with it. If you couldnt run vista on machines with integrated graphics vista would tank. and the x1400 is just below a x700 which is way above the x300.
