I was originally going to cancel my Studio 17 and said I had but decided to give it a shot. Its here now arrived today. I like it alot but I have a few questions. How can my order have been built and shipped so fast I never got any emails that it was in tested or anything. Just from In production to Shipped. Next Day Air Overnight it actually went from Nashville,TN to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Miami, FL in 24 hours.
#1. How can I tell if I am truly running Vista 64-bit. I went to run and typed WinVer but it didn't say 64-bit. (I did order 64-bit)
#2. I got the RGB LED screen and If I look sideways at the screen edge I can see RED and green lights in there I guess thats how I verify I really got the RGB LED. But the Gamma is off my Reds look a little to pink How do I change that?
#3. I ordered the Intel 5100 Wireless-N WiFi but how can I verify its in there?
I know dumb newbie questions. My first DELL. Still not sure of its a keeper they stuck a Centrino 1 label on it which makes me mad. The new Montevenia is Centrino 2 class. I went with the T9400 2.53ghz 6MB cache
On a Side Note: the 1920x1200 Display was a mistake, I can barely see the text, and my colors are off until I fix it but Vista is such crap and confusing it hides every possible setting, Even Add Remove Programs is named differently.

Who knows..you probably just got lucky and they were moving these swiftly thru production!
I would be happy to have an order placed, built and shipped to me in that amount of time
Remember, if you find more things you don't like about your lappy, you have 21 days from date of invoice to return for a new one, or return for a refund.
Just a thought for you on that
I like the 1440x900 resolution..it's very easy on the eyes

Could I ask what the estimated ship date was when you ordered it?

I can hardly believe this myself so heres some more deets
Yes I placed an order on 12-6 which I later canceled for like $1,700+
Windows 32-bit. Estimated ship was 12-22 2nd day air I paid extra $41.00
Canceled that
replaced order with modification team, Some config only Windows 64-bit saved $300+ order was $1487 and changed including messenger bag and 1 day air overnight free. Don't ask me how.
estimated ship on the new system placed on 12-9-08 was 12-19 (go figure)
on 12-10 I got a call to confirm and ok Production. Which I ok'd
I was never given any update just went from In Prod. to shipped.
shipped late 12-13, on 12-14 it went from Nashville, TN to basically Miami, FL in 24 hours or less. And FEDEX says they don't work on Sunday?
I called FEDEX they were puzzled as well. Not complaining for fast shipping I am simply suspicious.
How can the y build and ship a custom system so fast?
maybe because I complained to [email protected] or [email protected]? But that was on 12-11
still not liking the 1920x1200 RGB big deal I can't see text and colors are off
I am confused. -

I waited for the one I ordered for 3 solid weeks before they decided to cancel it. I'm beside myself. Not that I'm not happy for you, I'm glad your order got fulfilled so expeditiously. I'm just astonished at how incredibly backwards and arbitrary their order processing seems to be. You'd think they'd have this figured out by now. I'm waiting for an explanation for why they canceled the order despite the fact that I followed the instructions to give consent to continue processing it; I don't even know where to begin with them at this point.
What don't you like about the display, the 1920x1200 or the RGB LED? My Inspiron 6000 had a 15" 1920x1200 display - the text was a chore to read at native resolution. -
Be happy and enjoy it, is what I say! There are many peep's out there that ordered back in November, and are still waiting on their lappy's!
And, remember if your not happy with what you rec'd you can always return it!
Cin,

There are a few possibilities that could lead to your system getting quickly delivered so you got lucky. FedEx will continue transit on the weekends, they just won't process it if it gets to a sort facility on a weekend. There are a few special exceptions, but most follow this rule.
If you are having problems, first and foremost, you need a fresh install. Dell has gotten better, but their default install is by no means optimal. Then you should increase your DPI to better see. -
I'm telling you guys... the secret is using the word *cancel*. Look at how many times the OP canceled and look how fast he got it ;D (I bet only Cin' would be able to follow this)
But I don't know myself. My system was built ridiculously fast for Dell standards, but its a shame that this was only done when I desired it least- my suspicion is that it may just be some returned, unopened package like mine will be. With the "12 Days of Deal", they limited some of your customization options so its not that hard to get the same configuration as someone else. -
here are quick pics, still on the fence. not sure if I should remove the 2 stickers they seem to be more like permanent decals probably a mess if I peel them off. I know I have seen and configured systems that say Centrino 2.
fit and finish are tight can't get a piece of magazine thin paper through any seems.

my first vista system still learning the ropes -
I ordered mine on 12-8 and received it 12-10 i think they are just on top of it
i also ordered the WUXGA screen and i'm 17 and it's hard to see not sure if i like that or not either, the zoom seems to distort if anyone knows how to fix this distortion please let me know or how to make the dang text more readable i find myself borrowing my 60 year old dad's glasses to use it ha :] -
I didnt get a Centrino sticker on mine either just the Intel Duo Processor sticker.
As far as the RGB-LED display I can see a reddish/pinkish tint on lighter colored screens if I view if from an angle. From the front it is fine. I thought the Picture Quality was pretty good especially compared to an LG screen that I had with a XPS M1730 which was terrible. I adjusted the the picture with a Spyder 2 and looks great. You can also adjust using the ATI control panel quite a bit too even with a calibration.
The font can be made larger also by going to Personalization in the Control Panel and then look to the left side of the screen under tasks where you will see Adjust Font Size (DPI).
Keep in mind that these notebooks are already partially assembled when they receive them for final assembly. Then they just add whatever configuration you have ordered.
When they get enough to fill up a plane or container it then flies to TN where they are then shipped to various states. -

I've been waiting since July to get one of these (was waiting for the montevina upgrade). These are the first user shots I've seen of the backlit keyboard. It's every bit as beautiful as I imagined.
-
I had been always waiting for a nice laptop with a backlit keyboard now I realize why so many dont have it because with a super bright LED screen so close who needs more illumination?
seriously 17" RGB LED = too much, I better find a way to color calibrate this thing, My Samsung 2253BW is way better. Its just a matter of tweaking.
Way too bright, use with brightness all the way down.
Made text better switched from 90dpi to 120 dpi that hepled.
Also tried VGA output to my 22" Samsung LCD 2253BW looked amazing worked flawlessly. The 1737 Autodetected the Native 1650x1080 and self adjusted instantly.
I could pick from mirror 2 displays or spread my desktop across both Or what I picked to USe the External Display Only and it switched off the 1737's display.
Now all I need is a HDMI to DVI Adapter

bless monoprice $4 bucks and China's sweatshop high quality labor. I would have to pay $20+ at Best Buy for this if they even had it.
tested the HDMi to my HDTV and it auto detected to 1920x1080 looked actually better than what the Laptop displays at 1920x1200 because on the TV everything was bigger.
Weird how both resolutions that are not the Laptops native somehow looked better on these external Displays with more accurate colors.
Can someone upload a Color Profile please.
In retrospect, I should have gone with 1400x900 LED, this 1920x1200 RGB LED is nothing but a wasted $250 and a nightmare to calibrate correct colors.
Not to mention the extra battery juice the ATI 3650 and CPU have to use to Render everything at 1920x1200.
Also is the WiFi catcher on the left side supposed to glow mine does not -
I had the 1440x900 LED Studio 17 when it first came out and wasnt that impressed with the picture quality. I ended up sending it back. It is almost impossible to find a notebook computer display that has the quality of a home monitor.
Is this possible placed order on 12-10 arrived on 12-15
