Hi there,
I'm currently looking at buying this configuration tonight:
XPS m120
T2400 processor
1GB of 667 RAM (or should it be 2 for $225 more? this isn't my primary comp)
DVD burner
100gb 7200rpm HDD
256mb Nvidia Card
A/V Package
Bluetooth
Bloatware I don't want![]()
Anything else I'm missing, or does that look good to go? Only thing I wasn't sure about was the RAM...but since this isn't my main PC (I have a tricked out desktop I built for gaming/working/etc)....I thought it might be OK.
Hoping all your Dell lovers and experts can help!
Thanks again!!!

You are good to go. As you noted, the ram is fine. If you have the cash, upgrade to 2GB.
-
Thanks.
I might get it in a year or two from Newegg - and get some really good Corsair or something...
BTW - something weird I just noticed on the Dell site - they only are allowing you to pick ONE battery at purchase. (Earlier today, you could configure at purchase to have a main battery and a secondary battery). For some reason that option doesn't exist anymore.
I was thinking buying a second 6-cell battery (with 9-cell being primary) would be cheaper to do when I built the system...or am I wrong? In their online store...a standalone 6-cell for the m1210 costs $150 bucks...seems like a lot more than I remember it when building the system...hmm.... -
Whats the price on that machine there? It seems ok, i guess, but I personally would go with the config at Costco....
-

Yeah - no clue. Now the only choice is "primary battery" between 6 or 9 cell. The cheapest I've found it is when configuring the system I think (I didn't track the exact upgrade amount since I was just getting one of each)...but I'm pretty sure it wasn't another $150 just to get a 6-cell.
I doubt they'll start my order processing at midnight tonight...so I might just wait until tomorrow and give them a ring if I need to...or see if the site gets fixed. -
Only thing about Costco is they only offer the T2300E, RAM is 533mhz and all the harddrives are 5400rpm, plus the batteries are all 6-cell (and of course no financing). This is more of a "need a new toy because I'm a guy" machine for me (still to be used on business trips, etc)...so maybe Costco is the smarter route. I only buy a new comp every 3 years or so..so figured the things I mentioned above were worth the extra $400 or so to have...maybe not?
I liked the old days when there weren't as many choices...lol... -
Yeah it looks like its going to be a great config. Good luck with it, I havent had the best, but its still alright.
As you can see by my specs, it was also kind of a guy thing for me to...But im enjoying it, its not a bad gamer. I would definitly say go for the 2gb of RAM. The only question is to do it now or later. It also depends on how long your planning on using it. If your still going to be using it often in 2-3 years, then yeah id eventually upgrade to atleast 2gb, although by then 4gb may be just as affordable by then. -
LOL - at least we can admit it. My gf keeps yelling at me that it's me trying to one-up her (just helped her order a sweet Vaio 17" system last weekend)...and that I don't need it...yada yada...
What do you mean you haven't had the best luck with it? I'd be interested in to hear more.
If the laptop keeps crapping out on me...it's going right back. I've got a 600m that still works and a Sony SZ as a backup to order...Dell knows better than to mess with me.
So fill me in? -
Well Tune-Up utilities 2006's Memoptimizer fried all my memory. System, video, and my processor's cache. Basically that 1210 crased every 5 minutes. I just got my replacement on yesterday, and its got a quiet, but persistand screech coming from it. If you want to know more about that issue check out its thread, its happening on a few 1210's. So thats why I havent had good luck with it. But its mostly my fault. Other than that its great.
-
It gives you the option for a second battery on the second page.
-
Ah - I remember you now.
I read that thread.
It's NOT your fault that the second one isn't working though...so hold their feet to the fire and make them fix it for you...you deserve that.
I might break down and get the 2gb of RAM now or maybe later...no clue. Considering my killer desktop runs with 2GB of RAM and tears through games...not sure if I really need that for this laptop which will be a very occasional gamer (if that), ya know? -

Dude - you paid to have someone come onsite and fix it right? Whoever comes through the cornfields to fix it...is getting paid to do it. Remember, that's the job he signed up for...so don't feel bad about using the service you paid handsomely for.
Is this the best XPS m1210 configuration?
