Hi, my studio 15's OS is vista 64bit. Owning the machine for a week and I've had 3 blue screen incidents, two of which are caused by windows failure, and application/software failure everyday. From the reliability and performance monitor, it looks like the Dell online data safe software, fingerprint software, adobe 9, digitalpesona personal and roxio creator had failed. Also the detail for the two windows failure are "0x000000d1 (0xffffa60025e54dc,0x0000000000002, 0x000000000).
I had the Dell tech support people do a remote assist on my computer and her conclusion is that the unstability of the OS is caused by some of the windows automatic update download so she told me to not download any windows automatic update anymore and restore my system to the factory setting, which I did. But then that night (last night, I had the tech support session with her yesterday afternoon) I had the blue screen again. So I'm not sure what's causing the unstability problem anymore. One of my friends is using a Studio 15 with a vista 32bit, 4G RAM (mine is 64bit, 4G RAM). She said she never had blue screen problem and her system has been very stable.
I wonder maybe it's the 64bit's problem...??? If it is, is it worth to trade in the 64bit for a 32bit...? Any help? Suggestion? Thanks a million!!!

i actually find the opposite to be true, that vista 64 bit runs more smoothly and more stable than 32 bit. try reformating the hard drive again and the blue screen problems should go away. if not, then reformat to 32 bit. if problems persist, then send your laptop back to Dell, there might be actual hardware problems.

I'm running Vista 64-bit SP1 on my Studio 15 with 3GB of RAM. I have not had a blue screen caused by a Vista fault. (I have made blue screens happen by installing some incorrect drivers, but that was my own fault.)
Vista x64 with SP1 should be pretty stable. I think icecube is probably right (there might be some hardware issues with your particular lappy.) -
Hi, thanks for responding. I did the automatic system diagnostics (by pressing Fn and power etc. etc.). It says no hardware or memory problem... (btw, it took me 5+ hours to run the diagnostics.) Do you think the report of the system diagnostics is reliable and trustworthy...?
To KingRaptor, so you had no problem with the 64bit automatic update at all right? Just to make sure.I can't help saying this... in response to part of your signature, I'm Asian.
Thanks again!!!
Is vista 32bit more stable than 64bit?
