So, I've recently tried updating my Studio, the thing is, after installing the latest driver, the process igfxsrvc.exe now eats a larger chunk of my cpu usage than with the factory settings. Apparently this process is called Intel(R) Common User Interface. I read on another thread somewhere about others having this issue as well. I've tried to uninstall the current driver and installing the latest, to no avail though. I even emailed intels email support, and this is what they had to say regarding this cpu issue:

The truth is, I don't know why they said Intel Graphic Drive PV15.11.1. I'm not even sure if they're talking about the same device I have: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family.

The main reason I am prodding around for the latest driver is because of several games actually. After running it on the new driver, I no longer received the error "display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered" after my monitor flickers and the game crashes. For now, I've decided to stick with the older version of the driver, in order to conserve battery life. I hope that Intel comes up with another driver soon, or Dell updates their Studio 15 driver downloads page.

    Anyway, any comments? help? Thanks.

The updated drivers, provided by intel, enable the shader 4.0 support along with other things on Intel 965 chipset (x3100). This consumes more power since it requires more cpu usage. Dell drivers come with shader 4.0 support disabled and as a result you cannot play some of the games. I am not sure what's missing from drivers provided by dell but any updated driver provided by intel has the capability to use the graphics chipset to max.

Intel provides a developers tool to enable/disable some of the features for it's graphics chipset. If you are interested you should look into the download section for your chipset on intels' site.

Ah. Alright I'll look more into it. I was wondering about the embedded software, and maybe I'll dabble around in it. Thanks again.

Yeah you can do that too. Helps a lot if you put it to maximum power saving. Adds upto 30mins on operating time with brightness dimmed.
