    We have a new dell 1720 that is used to write college papers. I have to use a template set up by the teacher, I download the template click open resave it under my title, write the paper and hit save. I then attempted to drag the paper from the folder it was saved in to the desktop and it was gone. This happened once before, but the computer locked up, after I hit save, and again the paper was gone. I could not find anything reguarding the papers. Any ideas? I tried to set up auto save, but it doesn't seem to work and when I call dell I get no help. :confused: :mad:

    Is this with only that one particular program you use to edit the templates? Try reinstalling it. Though I doubt thats the problem, its nice to do it just to be safe.

    I think its more likely that it may be a hard drive problem with some of the sectors and such. Try running chkdsk:

    Start -> Run => cmd => chkdsk c: /F /R.

    It will ask if you want to unmount the drive, answer "n" (no), then it will ask if you want to schedule a checkdisk at windows start, answer "y".

    Hopefully it will fix things up.

    What program are you using exactly? Why don't you try dragging the file to the desktop, but make a folder for it first.
