Well the 710m has officially made the shores of North America today (just checked Dell Canada website). All components & pricing SEEM identical. Nothing flashy on the website to promote it either. Hmmm, on the official website the 700m is no longer present BUT on a Dell affiliate website, you can still use a hidden link and custom order one. Strange.

Here's the specs for the 710m:
    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735 (1.7GHz), 12.1 inch WXGA [Included in Price]
512MB DDR SDRAM 1 Dimm [Included in Price] (standard)
Free Upgrade to 80GB Hard Drive [Included in Price] (for this week's "deal")
    8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
4-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (32WHr) [Included in Price]
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915 Internal Wireless (802.11 a/b/g, 54Mbps)
    blah
    blah
    blah...
But I wonder, can anyone confirm, is the same CHIPSET in this machine as was in the 700m? (This will confirm that both machines are identical, and only difference is color).

Let the discussions begin! Although no one is much excited but me ;p.

There is no longer any white trim/"bumpers". Instead the whole chasis is arctic silver & the keyboard is of white color (such as iBook). That's about it.

Well this is kind of a shame. I am getting the wife a 700m for christmas. She likes the 710 a little more, so I kinda want to hold out for that. Unfortunatley, along with skimping on the coupons, dell is no longer giving good deals to the military. Right now though, a 700m is $849 for the base system, 1.7Ghz processor, Wifi, 1 year warranty, the basic stuff, but it has a free DVD burner at least. That isn't too bad a deal, but I would like it to still be going when the 710 gets released!! HURRY UP DELL!!

It's released, atleast in the Dell Canada website (oh I see, not out in U.S. just yet - woah, that's a first).

It SHOULD be out any day now in the U.S. and it will be of similar pricing as the 700m so you might as well just wait it out if you like that color scheme more. But performance wise, you will see zero difference between the two machines as they will be containing the same components.

It looks like the international sites take down the 700m when they put the 710m up. So you may not have a choice between the two once the 710m hits in the US (unless you get the 700m from ebay or something).

That is true. But I am still able to custom order either by using a Dell affiliate link. (Not off the actual Dell Canada website - google'd it) But ya, doesn't really matter which one you do get, as they are almost identical.
