It's good to have gray hair and a new M1530

I landed one of the $599 deals at BestBuy on the 'closeout' 1530 machines. I've had the Dell for a few days and absolutely love it. After spending countless hours with my 7 year old Inspiron 8100 - this is a rocket ship.

The reason I like the gray hair is because I no longer care about the fastest, meanest, overclocked beast like I once did. I haven't ran any speed checks on it because - frankly - I don't care. I don't game and don't care if Photoshop takes 10 seconds or 8 seconds to load. Those 2 seconds aren't worth a $1000 bump to me. I just want to cruise the 'net and pump some netflix 'watch them nows' out of the HDMI to my new HD Sony XBR4.

The new machine is quiet, runs cool, has a great monitor and is fast enough.

I actually bought 2 of the machines thinking of putting one on ebay, however my son-in-law, a design engineer, saw mine last night an wrote a $599 check so fast that I couldn't even collect the $19 shipping that I paid. (no tax in Montana.)

If I get seven years out of this XPS, I may switch from gray hair to limited hair for my XPS M6100 - or whatever it will be in 2015. Since I paid nearly $1,900 for my 8100 in 2001, and $599 for my M1530 in 1008, I figure the M6100 in 2015 will be about $75. I may upgrade to 200 Meg of ram for an additional $4.99 then - who knows.

    Life is Good

    Regards, Mike

I'd prefer to have a new Dell and no gray hairs. But to each his/her own :)
