mainly questions i've been wondering about my m1330
1. are all of dell's santa rosa processors 64 bit? (well in particular the t7300, t7500, t7700)
2. is the vista home premium dell offers 32 bit or 64 bit? what about the vista ultimate?
3. by having a 64 bit processor and a 64 bit vista i can fully utilize 4 gigs (2x2gigs) of ram at either 667 or 800?
4. do harddrives have specifics sizes or are they one fit all? i might change my harddrive and i'm wondering if all harddrives would fit in the m1330 or whether i would have to find particular drives?

1. Yes
2. Yes Yes
3. Yes @ 667
4. Any 2.5" SATA HD will fit.... -
thanks but... you didnt really answer number 2 lol
so does the vista home premium offered by dell 32 bit or 64 bit?
is the vista ultimate offered by dell 32 bit or 64 bit? -
1. All modern processors are 64 bit except the original duos (I believe).
2. All commercial versions of vista are 32 bit. You then log onto the MS website and request a copy of 64bit vista and they will send it to you for free.
3. If you get 64 bit and have an m1330 yes you can use all 4gigs. You cannot use 800 because it mostly doesn't exist because santa rosa still is 667 ram based
4. Yes you need a particular drive, a 2.5 inch. -

1. Yeas. All of them above the T5450 are 64 bit. Not sure about the 5250.
2. All OS offered on the consumer lines are 32 bit, unless specially specified as 64 bit.
3. Yes. You can use 4 GB of RAM under any 64 bit OS. 800 MHz is not supported.
4. Some harddrives may not fit- esp some 250GB ones. However, this cannot be confirmed until someone measures the space mnually. -

"64-bit DVD
If you bought Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, or Business as a retail, packaged product, and you would like a DVD of 64-bit software media to install on your PC, please choose your language:
Note: 64-bit media is included in the box with Windows Vista Ultimate."
does dell just give you the install disc or do they give you the entire box (basically do i get the 32 bit disc AND the 64 bit disc with dell?)
are there any any real issues with 64 bit in comparison to 32 bit? where i should opt for the 32 bit rather than the 64 bit?
sorry for so many questions >< -
No ... you must trade it in with Microsoft...
I THINK you can request it here...

If you have Ultimate, you can request this as well (I was a Vista Beta tester and I got a 32-bit Ultimate version... and it allowed me to get the 64-bit version for free). -
Dell doesn't give you a commercial version of vista, they give you an OEM version... whethere that comes with a 32 and 64 bit disc is up for debate

64 bit discs are not included, and the OEM version of Vista is not eligible for upgrade to 64 bit. You have to purchase it seperately.

any recommendation of brands for internal harddrives? what brand does dell use?
EDIT: i cant seem to find any 2.5" internal SATA harddrives which are at least 120GB at 7200rpm =/ any help? -
I've heard that there is not much support for the 64 bit Vista yet. Especially when it comes to drivers. Is there any truth to that?
What are the pros/ cons of switching to 64bit besides the obvious that you will be able to actually see the full 4GB of RAM? -
This is true, but supposedly a 64 bit environment is more stable and operates exponentially faster. But then again, readyboost was supposed to turn usb sticks into extra ram, and that didn't really work out.
just a few questions...
