I've finally made up my mind and decided to go for the E1505.
Been battling with many sales rep over the phone to try to get the 5% off 899 deal (kiosk only) stack up with the coupons but no luck.
Below are the details of the system I ordered thru phone,

    specs:
    Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2400 (2MB Cache/1.83GHz/667MHz FSB)
    15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™
    2GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm for Inspiron 6400/E1505
    256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™
100GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive (no more 7200rpm HD available)
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Intel® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr HW Warranty Support
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition re-installation CD
Remote Control for Windows XP Media Center Edition

    final cost was 2000 - 750 - 35 - 25 (special discount) = 1190
plus tax and free shipping = 1260

    Any comments on the above?
Personally I think it's a pretty good deal, although it may be possible to push even further. What do you guys think?

Whoa, great deal. Especially the graphic card. But 53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, only? Are you going to take it while on the go? If not, that laptop is great.

prob a mistake not to get the 9 cell, and a mistake to get 2gb ram (as it's way too expensive!)
    check my sig
i also paid about the same(1221), but with 2 batts, 2ghz, but 1gb RAM, and 120gb HD

This laptop will be mainly for home use and won't be carried around too much so battery life isn't really an issue for me.

As for the memory, personally, I would rather double the ram than getting 0.17 GHz more for the processor.

    Just my opinion.

What happened to the 7200 rpm hard drives? What is Dell telling you?

The sales rep over there told me that those 7200 rpm HD are no long available even though they're available online at the configuration page.

Over there in their system, it will pop up an error msg if they try to put it through, so I went for the 100GB 5400rpm instead.

Hello, my first post here. I just bought the E1505 too, my FIRST notebook. I'm still waiting for it and I upgraded it a lot so I could use that $750 off coupon. The only thing I regret is a faster processor... I too noticed that the 7200 rpm drives are not available anymore and that's what I ordered. Maybe I should have lower the drive capacity and have the bigger processor... Oh well, you can't have all. I can't wait to get it so I can reformat the pc. These are my specs:

I am having a hard time deciding on whether to go with the Ultrasharp or the Truelife screen or the standard. What are your opinions on this? I actually think I'd prefer a lower native resolution offered with the standard screen, but the viewing angle of the Ultrasharp would be nice. What good does the Truelife do? Please let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    Ben

2 gb of ram,,you think you have enough?

i went with 1gb,,,thinking thats plenty.

ya,, the 9 cell battery might have been a better choice, i have the 6cell myself,,its fine,,just doesn,t last as long....

I just got a very similar set up:

    Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2400 (2MB Cache/1.83GHz/667MHz FSB)
    15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™
    1GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm for Inspiron 6400/E1505
    256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™
100GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive (no more 7200rpm HD available)
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Intel® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
3Yr Ltd Warranty, 3Yr Mail-In Service, and 3Yr HW Warranty Support
    3Yr Accidental Damage Coverage
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition re-installation CD
    FREE Netgear WRG614v6 Wireless Router

    For about $1350 shipped/taxed etc.

I didn't get the $750 discount, I couldn't get it to go. But I did get an extra $100 mail-in rebate, so it's pretty even.

Ultrasharp is what Dell called there high resolution creens while 'Trulife' is Dell's name for there glossy screens. Glossy screen enrich color and brightness but come with the price of glare. If you are unsure. I urge you to go to a Dell Kiosk and check out an E1505 in person. Usually the WSXGA+ Trulife panel is the one in the display model. If you can't make it there. Check out somewhere like Bestbuy or CircuitCity where you can see glossy finished screens in person.

BTW: If you are unsure about a topic like Trulife, it doesn't hurt to search for topics where this was previously discussed. But if you are still confused feel free to ask.

If you did want a 9 cell battery its easy enough to find a Dell-branded one new in box on ebay for significantly less than Dell sells them for...

Where did you find a 40% coupon. The coupons on this site seem to only be for 30% off. Then again, the E1505 I am considering in only about $1270 before discount, so might not matter.

BTW, anyone know how the Dell coupons tend to work? Last week and this week were basically 30% off, but should I expect better prices near the 4th of July?

Didn't see those - say a free memory upgrade that I might not have noticed otherwise.

$750 coupons are posted on here under the Dell Coupons tab, but you have to have a more than $2000 base price system, so the 30% over $1K works better for my configuration.

    Thanks, though.

Hmm, its a great deal, however I would have gotten a better warranty, just in case somethig happens
