Ok so I finally configured the system the way I want it and purchased it through dell's military discount website www.aafes.com. Total price was $678.00.
Heres the specs of my system:
Inspiron E1505
Intel® CoreTM Duo Proc T2050 (1.60GHz/533MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache)
Genuine Windows® XP Home
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
256MB ATI MOBILITYTM RADEON® X1400 HyperMemoryTM
60GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Integrated Audio
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr HW Warranty Support
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 Internal Wireless
To keep the price down I opted for the lowest Core Duo cpu and getting the standard LCD. I felt that the 1680x1000 res was a little too high for a 15 inch screen. And it's not like I can game at that res with the x1400 anyway. What do you guys think?

Looks good. I haven't checked Dell lately, but you might want to get the lowest amount of RAM possible. Usually Dell is expensive on the RAM, but the 1gb might be free this week - so if it is, then just stick with what you got.
Just bought an E1505!
