I just complained to Dell about my grainy lcd and they sent me a replacement. I have no clue how to install it. Is there any manual or general documentation for doing this?
    Thanks

They should always send you out an engineer. Complain until they do. More to the point, check the brand, if it's AUO, then just ask for a new one with the engineer also.

If you play it well enough, you should get a result.

They're giving me an upgraded screen this time, to see if thats better. Ill see if we can weedle maybe a processor upgrade or some more ram out of them also.

Well, you can go here and lookup LCD replacement. It appears that Dell has added a login to this, but it is easy to gain access just using your Dell Customer # (probably on your confirmation emails)

What do you mean "engineer"? How do you weedle a processor upgrade or more ram out of them? Teach me how!!

Look in the front bottom left of the screen (the chromish looking bezel around the LCD).
If it says AUO, they sent you the same AUO 2077 and im 99.99% sure it will have grain.

    sorry dude.

Keep asking them for a different one. The I've had experience with all three LCD companies, CPL, AUO, and LG and LG is the best by far. My screen is flawless and absolutely gorgeous.

I have an AUO screen and it's perfect, no graininess, great contrast.... I guess I'm part of the 0.01% of people that have perfect AUO screens. It was way better than my LG philips screen, which had a huge backlight bleed and a bad grainy screen. From what I saw, the difference between the AUO screens and the LG screens, is that the LG screens are extremely bright, almost too bright, imo. The AUO screens have a way better contrast when compared to the LG screens. Well, whatever brand you get from the Dell technician, make sure the screen is perfect, no graininess, no backlight bleed. Don't let the brand skewer your choice.

Sorry to BUST your bubble but you have the WXGA AUO screen which doesn't have grain issue or rather VERY SMALL MINORITY. only about 1-2% WXGA have this grain issue but I've seen 3 vostros with AUO screen and all were good.

It's the WXGA+ AUO 2077 (as I said earlier) that has the grain issue. NOT the WXGA.

Your AUO screen does not apply to this thread.

Hmm must be looking in the wrong place - I don't see my LCD as a device anywhere. I just have a generic PnP monitor listed in the device manager....
