I've just successfully installed xp on my inspiron 1525 preloaded with vista. Now I'm thinking about upgrading hard drive and have a few questions. Do I just find any 2.5 sata? Is it possible to "clone" my current hard drive to my new one so I don't have to go through the installation process again?

Any 2.5'' sata drive should work ... provided it's a 2.5 laptop sata drive. For going to a new hard drive, I recommend Norton Ghost. It's not that expensive and it can save you a lot of time when you use it for backing up.
