The sticker was on the casing. It came off without a fight, though; no glue residue left on the case.
The original laptop was ordered last September. It definitely doesn't count for Windows 7.![]()
Besides, I already pre-ordered two Home Premium upgrade packages.
The T9500 over the stock T6400? It's a little quicker to do things, and it definitely doesn't delay as much when opening large programs, thanks to the tripled L2 cache.
I haven't installed much so far, but Team Fortress 2 is quite comfortable at 720p. I think I'll try Left 4 Dead, CoD4 and Fallout 3 next.
It's not exactly the same. Look at the side-by-side picture earlier in this thread; you can see that the 1555 is slightly wider and shorter than the 1535. It may still fit your case, since the difference is only a fraction of an inch in height and width.
Haha, not quite. It's a 4chan thing.![]()

Hey! Glad you got it installed ok. Its not the quickest of jobs
Have you checked temps whilst gaming yet? Even with my copper mod it is still to high for my liking. I guess you just left the termal pad on the GPU or did you change it at the same time as your CPU? -
I just left the thermal pad on for now; I'll wait for Dell to replace my subwoofer, since I'll have to tear it down to the motherboard again to install it.
-
Hum.... Then I guess I may not qualify for the Windows 7 upgrade either.... I'm hoping it's linked to the service tag number that would be generated on my order date....
-
The service tag for my refurbished replacement was there well before I got it. Trying to register it on Dell's site says it's an international system though.
-
ah... So it's really dependent on the service tag of the replacement computer. That will dictate whether or not you can get windows 7?
You get a new service tag when you get a replacement computer right? -
I got a different one from the original computer, yes, but it was not new.
-
OMFG! THEY CANCELED MY ORDER AGAIN! AHHHHH
This is getting ridiculous.... -
Jesus, dude. You try calling them about it yet?
-
trying to call them now. wow. I dont even know what to say. I'm speechless.
-
Wow, i'm sort of scared now about Dell's customer service. Ughh...if my incoming laptop has any problems, i can forsee a very very very long time with the telephone... =(
-
Is the lid matte or glossy?
-
Black Chainlink is glossy. The other options are matte.
-
Anyways, man, Canceled again?.....I too am speechless. How many times is it now?
I assume that you will raise Hell with them right? -
haha yea... check out my own thread... i have a picture showing my dell orders... the 3 computer that have been canceled
Weee!!!

So, I just had a technician here this morning to replace my subwoofer and motherboard. I can't lie, I was actually very impressed by the response time of this service call. I called Tech Support regarding my broken subwoofer cable and bent ExpressCard pin just yesterday, and they said they would have a technician call me sometime within the week.
I get a call this morning at 7:30 from the local technician, saying that he just received the parts, which had been shipped to him by express overnight FedEx, and asked what was a good time to come over. Holy crap, that was fast. Not even 24 hours after my initial call to Dell, the tech was in my house with the parts. Next day onsite service indeed!
The techie was actually pretty cool. He said my 1555 was the first one he'd ever worked on. I guess that's good, since it indicates that several months after release, they aren't having many problems. Anyway, he tore the machine down and we got to chatting about tech stuff...we actually ended up finding a couple of errors in the Service Manual for the 1555; some screws exist that are not labeled, and some cables are not where they are indicated in the manual. Then he ended up telling some stories about how his first job was as an electronics technician in the Navy on board a nuclear submarine.
After removing my processor from the old motherboard, he actually suggested that I take care of replacing the processor and heatsink on the new motherboard, since I "probably have better thermal paste than the crap Dell provides". So, I got to whip out my Arctic Silver 5 and a copper shim for the GPU and install it. It was pretty fun.
So, everything went pretty smoothly, and everything was replaced and the technician was gone, not even 24 hours after I first called Dell. That's what I call service.
Now, they just need to make every call this good. -
That sounds like excellent response time for dell; for any company for that matter. I guess Dell is starting to pick up the slack..haha.
-
I guess they remembered I paid a hundred dollars for that service.
-
Shrooms out of curiousity, did you tip the guy, if so how much?
-
No, I didn't tip him. That's generally not customary here.
-
How is the system working after the first few days?
-
Couldn't be better, I'm happy to say. Only one BSOD so far, and that's because after the new motherboard was installed, the SATA mode setting in BIOS was set to IDE, not AHCI.
-
Ah. Thats good. I'm glad you finally got a good system
I'm getting pretty impatient waiting for my system....
How long is the battery lasting? -
Battery life is great. They upgraded me to the 9 cell for free, very nice of them.
On a full charge, with display brightness on minimum, Power Saver mode, CPU undervolt, and WiFi/Bluetooth on, it gets between 5:30 and 6 hours. Way better than I expected with the ATi 4570. -
So you installed the copper mod? what size copper shim did you use? I found the 14mm a bit thick and although I used it the memory chips are no longer pressed against the heat sink ( I didnt see this as a problem though as there is 2 chips on the other side of the motherboard without any heat sinks)
-
How did you get them to replace it? I have gone through 3 touch pads for this problem, and 3 motherboards aswell, and 4 laptop lids because the hinges keep cracking, and they said that they will not replace it with anything different than what I bought..
Howcome they replaced yours? I have 1 year accidental warranty and free replacement parts until August.. Yet when I ask for a different lid they tell me no way..

hey shroom,
Just got a really quick question. I saw another thread a while back about you mentioning about the 720p screens vs 1080 etc. Now that you ahve a 720p screen (assuming as it states that in your signature), how does it look compared to your old studio1535? -
I got the classic two yr warranty on my 1555. If I have a problem w/ my laptop would they come over to fix it or would they have me send it out to them? I see that a technician came out to your place.
-
-
-
-
Just adjust the DPI. I have the 1535's 1080p screen, and it's fine.
-
But yes... if the screen is too high resolution just change the DPI
for the 720p screen the icons won't be too big. they will be just kinda standard... same as your average laptop at bestbuy -
You can shrink icons on the 720p with Ctrl + scroll wheel.
-
shroom, did u install media direct with ur vista format at the beginning? Does media direct slow down the laptop at all?
-
I have never installed MediaDirect.
On a side note, I swapped the T9500 for a P8600 last night. Working nicely so far. -
I just got my LAPTOP!
But i can't find the media direct CD...does it say media direct on it? =S -
I didn't get one either. I wouldn't worry about it too much...in fact, I'm pretty sure the 1555 doesn't have MediaDirect in the first place.
-
-
it's so slow though...i don't know if it's just the beginning; but the speed is mad disappointment at the moment.
And I still can't find the media direct CD!
I only have Vista CD, cyberlink, roxio, webcame, and "studio1555 computer software". -
how slow are we talking here..... Are you doing a clean install? It's probably on the computer software disc?
-
yeah, i will be doing a clean install shortly; but i'm trying to see if they forgot my media direct CD or if it's one of these and I fail to realize it lmao. Trying to fix my router too; forgot password to the network =(
-
haha that always sucks.... Just type in the IP address for your router on your computer that is already on the network... should be able to get your passwords through that....
-
wow, im so bad with computers. Took me an hour to reset my router...
And does anyone with a studio1555 confirm that there is/isn't a media direct CD? thanks. -
-
Btw, the chainlink black isn't as bad as i thought. You really have to look at it REALLY closely to see fingerprints (inside a room). The screen's okay too, 900p might have been a bit better; but i'm not complaining! -
Take some pics and let us know how it's running
-
will do!
But first off, gotta reformat this thing. It's so slowass right now (guess i'm not used to vista lmao) -
Out of curiosity... what are you used to? How fast is your existing computer... Even with vista... i'm expecting this new computer to be much faster than my computer now...
Just got a Studio 1555 to replace my 1535
