The salesman hardly knew anything at all. I knew way more than him, and thats not saying much. I've learned more here the last few days than all the stuff I knew before.
The black and brown lids look almost identical. The blue is close, but you can obviously distinguish it from the others. I actually liked the blue.I still like white the best personally, but black isn't bad for free and not as a long delay.
The 17 inch is very heavy, but I like the size and look. The 14.1 inch is actually the best looking one of the three I think. But its just too small for me.
I'm scared about the glossy screen now... The anti-glare looked good, but the color on the glossy was way better. The glares kind of bugged me a little.
HERE'S A STORY THAT WAS ONLY MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH THIS FORUM!!!
So this guy beside me was ordering a 1720, and it came to $1450. While he was talking to the salesman, I went to notebook review on another computer, and got the $325 off coupon code and wrote it down. When the salesman walked away, I walked over to the guy and simply said "tell the rep you want to put this code in as a coupon code." LOL, he tried to ask questions, but I just said to trust me and do it. And I walked away, and kind of watched from a distance as my girlfriend was shopping in a nearby store. A smile was on his face the rest of the time I could see him though. This forum helped me by realizing that my $1300 laptop could only be $1000, and I'm glad I could pass it on.

Awww. That's so sweet.
We should all form a squad for helping people pay less for Dell, hahaha.
What should we call it? -
LOL, ummm....
we just prowl around the dell kiosks, and pounce when the rep walks away. -
lol how nice...
-
It's actually kinda sadistic. Now poor guy will be stuck, waiting for his laptop along with the rest of us
-
Haha! Kudos to you!
-
Kudos to you for helping the guy out, and shame on the Dell rep for trying to gouge a customer.
-
yeah, it made me think... What is the purpose of dell releasing these coupons, and how exactly do they work? Who gives the coupons out? I saw some guy on ebay selling them for $2.99. I'm thinking about buying one, and leaving him negative feedback with the notebookreview coupon page, because he's ripping people off.
-
You wanna pay to badmouth someone?
-
No, I want to pay to inform the people who this guys ripping off. To help his future customers from being scammed out of a measely $3. If thats badmouthing, then I guess I do. No one should turn around and sell something that is public and free to everyone.
-
oh, com'n I'm just kiddin
BTW, I think if anyone pays $3 for freely available info, it's kinda their choice, they prefer to pay for the information instead of researching it themselves... It's a free market, buddy
I'm not defending the guy, I'm just saying... we all make choices to save time OR save money - the two almost never go hand in hand
-
That's awesome. That was nice of you to help that man
-
You're right. Anyone has that choice, and in reality, I'm not looking at it from their choice, because a simple search of two words can find multiple pages with the coupons on them. I just hate that someone would sell that kind of info. Its just wrong in all ways to me.
-
People will always find ways to take advantage of peoples' loose pockets and ignorance. It's like an unwritten rule of economics.
-
Actually, that's the ONLY rule of economics, well, free market
-
Nicely said.

i too went to the dell store at north park mall in dallas
the guy i talked too didn't seem too knowledgable either
he kept trying to sell me cheaper configurations even though i told him my $1000 budget
edit: for those of you in texas, the guy also told me that they had an in-store promotion next week for tax-free weekend that would include laptops and desktops, but not other electronics -
Good work to the OP for helping the guy out. But you can hardly blame Dell if the guy buying didn't care enough to do some preliminary homework regarding his Dell purchase. Do you just go to a car dealership and say "I'll have that one over the please.. wrap it up to go". No you do research and seek out deals first. Now the topic of Dell making ordering into an Olympic sport.. I agree 100% there... they DO like to hide things away. But if you're interested enough, bargains can be found.
-
Good stuff... Not good enough.
If you're going take the coupon and also ask for more... It may take a bit but you can get even more than the $325 off. PM me if you're confused
lol
-
that was an awesome story! I just tried repping you but I've reached my limit! sorry!! still, big heart u have
-
True, it is a free economy, and in the business world people take advantage of the buyer all the time. Does that make it right? Not at all, and I'll do what I can to exploit these type of things when I see them. Taking advantage of your neighbor to make a extra buck is obsurd.
-
As if I wasn't having a hard enough time trying to decide between an Inspiron 1520 and the HP DV9543CL ... I pass by North Park twice a day on my way to work.
Thanks for posting!
-
Lol you should have asked the guy to give you $100 as a "thank you for saving me money"
-
Do you have something against me selling Dell Coupons on eBay?!
I'm just kidding! But just imagine if the guy who sells them is a member on this forum site... -
I imagine he or she is.
-
for every dumb joe that you help with a dell deal... the smaller the profit margins for dell, which means higher prices for everyone else
-
Hardly - many of the Dell coupons are number limited anyways. Even if the costs were passed on, I'd gladly pay an extra $0.05 on my next order to see the smile on that one person's face.
Just got back from dell kiosk...personal opinion and a GREAT Story
