I just got my 1420 today
    T7500, 2G Ram, 120 GB HD 7200 RPM, BT, 1440 x 900.

However, when I first turned on my machine, I saw 2 bright white spots at the lower left hand portion of the screen. The size is about the size of an "o"...a bit smaller. If you look at it from an angle from the top, you see 2 spots. But if you look at it straight, you see one spot.

I contacted Dell and they said they wanted me to send it back and then replace the screen. Or I can try to contact customer care and they should send me a new one. Which route should I go?

I am so disappointed...I have had so many Dell laptops before for work and none of them had a problem like this. This is the first time I purchase a laptop for home and it turnd out like this...sigh...

If you have Dell send you a new one, you can use this one while you wait.

aghhh! Can they be dead pixels? I don't know about Dell, but some companies have a dead pixel policy where if you have above a certain amount you can get the laptop replaced.

They are not dead pixels, they are bright white...like 2 holes with light coming thru.

Yes, you are right about having them send me a new one so that I can use the existing one. I will try tomorrow.

Get a new replacement. It takes about the same time to get it repair and get a replacement.

Called Customer Care and they are building me a new one and ship it to me in the next 8 business days. I couldn't believe it passed QA with the defect that my screen has.

    Thanks for your response.

I can't answer your first question since I only have it for 1 day.

I debated between HP and Dell. The reason I didn't go with HP is because
    1. customer service is bad from HP according to other users' experience
    2. their video card says 64mb vs. 128mb
    3. they don't offer 1440 x 900 resolution
    4. they only offer 5200rpm drives

these are the major reasons I went with Dell. Besides the 2 bright white spots, the machine is fast and the sound is good. I will let you know if I find something else I like/dislike.
