Just got it. it's a replacement for the one I have due to bad grainy screen. after they replaced the screen twice with the wrong one WXGA instaed of WSXGA+.
this one has WXGA+ 1400X900 it's beautiful screen . # LPLDF00 ...
so anyone wants a 1400X900 resolution. this is what you should ask for " LPLDF00". You will love it. bright... too bright but you can dim it. also not grainy. just your dream screen.
I'm waiting for my 4ths laptop replacement next week. it should have the WSXGA+ 1680X1050. if it's not as good as this one I will call dell and ask to swap them if they refund me 50$..
The laptop is great no noise no scratches,,every thing in place and work fine. The only thing bothers me "don't know why" the sticker next to the windows Vista logo it says Intel Centrino instead of Intel Core2 duo.. although in the device mangaer it's a Intel Core2 duo.
anyone knows if there is any diffrence between these two??
-
-
glad you like it!
-
You have 4 XPS's or it was replaced 3 times and waiting for 4th?
-
waiting for the 4th. but had 2 screen replacement too
-
4 M1530 replacements??
-
What do you think about the brightness between WXGA+ and WXGA? or they both look the same to you in term of brightness?
Thanks -
When I had the LG WXGA it was just as beautiful as this one. same brightness. You will love both. the resolution is the only diffrence. also I was just checking for light leak. there is none.
-
So WXGA+ fonts are a little smaller than WXGA? I am just curious. I got WXGA, but I listen to this forum about high resolution screen, so I want to know if it is really necessary to have WSXGA+. Anyway, I think it is going to be to small for my taste.
-
yes they are smaller. but there is a way around that. right click on the desktop . choose Personalize. on the left under task. there is an option "Adjust front size (DPI)". I have tried this, it works great. you can make the font as big as you want. although some websites did not adjust to the bigger font. don't know why. I had to send the laptop back before I can play with it much.
you should get the higher resolution. you can adjust it to wahtever you want. and when you need higher resolution you can use it. just extra 50$. I think is worth it. just my opinion. -
dvmxps1530, If the WXGA+ (1400 x 900) is so good, then why are you going to want to swap it with a WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050). How many laptops do you own? I've have owned a laptop with 1680 x 1050 and I can tell you, it has very small text and desktop icons. If you have never used one, you may want to try one somewhere first, you might be dissapointed. they are great for gaming and also on 17" (or larger) screens, but for 15.5" , hmmmm, personal preference I guess. Good luck with your system(s).
edit) I just read your last post. Must have been while I was typing mine. Yep, playing with the fonts is a good idea, but you end up using the left-right scroll quite often because everything is balooned up horizontally and vertically. Okay if your trackpad has it (left-right scroll) built in. We are all used to scrolling up and down all the time, but not as much of a knee-jerk reaction to go left right. -
mazal tov, i've been following your drama...
-
Centrino is the name for the Intel Wireless Programm
-
Thanks,
I like the higher resolution because I can have many windows up next to each other. I do alot of things at the same time.
I did have the 1680X1050 I saw how small the font is and I loved it, it was really waht I want.but it was grainy so it went back. -
so why they did put the sticker as Centrino instead of Intel Core2 Duo?. this laptop is exactly like the one I had before except for the screen.
-
Core 2 Duo processor + Intel chipset + Intel wireless card = Centrino
So... if you got the Intel wireless card with the system, you get the Centrino sticker, otherwise, you get the Core 2 Duo sticker.
Probably because the HTML code for the web page specifies the font size in pixels, instead of points, which probably bypasses DPI scaling (a pixel is still a pixel). IE 7 has a page zoom feature though... you could give that a try. -
It's just the start so be ready for more..
-
This make sense. Thank you.
-
I got an Intel wireless card with a Core 2 Duo sticker. Dell may not be consistent about sticker application.
-
So..... was the 1400 x 900 screen accidently sent to you by accident, or have you now decided that you want the 1680 x 1050, and you are going to return the 1400 x 900 ????........ OR, do you own 2 laptops and you want to set them up differently?
-
I own one laptop it suppose to be 1680X1050 . it was grainy. I relaced it twice and twice they sent the wrong resolution they sent me 1280X800. then they send whole new laptop that I have now 1400X900 again sent the wrong resolution. it has been long journy.
-
Send it back... demand a full refund.
I got two copies of the Drivers disc... I think there has to be a little something wrong with every order. -
Wow, sounds like you have had quite a journey. How's your blood pressure? I though my story was nasty, but after the third unit had the same problems, and after spending tonnes of time on here reading about similar problems, I ended up demanding a full refund. Still waiting for it over 2 months later. The people at Dell were great in trying to help me, but it just became too consuming. Good luck with your sitchyayshun !!! I'm sure you have already come across similar things to the following.........

I though Dell can not f*** up more. they've always proved me wrong.
-
I don't suppose you would be willing to take a pick of your SEC and LG screens side by side? Brightness up?
-
So Dell actually sent you the wrong resolution twice? That's beyond incompetent.
-
here are some photos . Also I put some more in a new thread called;
Lg Vs Samsung side by side. see them here:

Lg is on the right side.Attached Files:

That's an amazing difference. My 1530 came with an LG screen, so I (thankfully) never got to see the bad ones. Thanks for the photos!
-
so just to confirm, they are both on maximum LCD brightness?
-
Yes. 100% full brightness.
-
That is really a glaring difference. I just ordered my M1530 and I got information that it will be LG. Can't wait
-
How can you find out what screen you get before you get it?
-
Yeah a huge thankx for these photos. Finally I can see why everyone wants to have a LG Screen. And yeah, is there any possibility to see what screen you gonna get before you actually get it?
-
Okay
I currently work at Dell as an L3 agent, and today just after I got off the phone with my 5th customer with this problem. I decided to go see what all the fuss is about and there is quite alot of fuss. Please keep in mind that our tech support agents deal with a variety of issues from very small ones to complex issues that might deal with editing the registry. This issue that is very common on these forums might actually be a very small ammount of our total call volume.
In regards to everyones issue with the grainy screens, simply calling in and demanding a LG screen will work but there are a few things you need to know. First our tools allow us to select the part but we have no way to guarentee that that specific part will be the one sent out. In most cases the correct part will be sent but if that part is not in stock a usable substitute will be sent in its place. Also the most of the frontline agents use a tool that gives them limited options to choose parts. And while I cant go into detail about this I can say the descriptions are very generic like LCD WSXVGA+.
Furthermore you should not be calling in to get an LG screen just because people say its a better screen as it may be more frustrating then its worth. -
thanks for the input.
But can you explain why dell send me 2 screens and one laptop all in the wrong resolution?. I'm not talking Lg & samsung I'm talking WSXGA+ & WXGA.. how is it that after the first time mistake, someone send again the wrong part?. and agin for the third time. the third time they sent me a whole new laptop with the WXGA+ instead of my original purchase of WSXGA+....
How come it has been 6 weeks since I ordered my laptop and I have not got what I want?
How come Tech support promised me"And I have it in writing in Chat log" that he will send me the correct part and it will be Lg screen too. and he did not??
why do I "cutomer" have to stay on the phone and chat for hours to fix a problem "with laptop I've just got" that is as simple as sending the right part "copy, paste and done".
by the way I work in large vet hospital and I was making a deal with dell to buy 20 desktops for our new hospital. Now I'm not sure I want to do that after the hell I went through.
don't take me wrong. tech support and cutomer care people are very nice and helpful on the phone. but they are not doing the right thing after you hang up the phone.
Some explinations and answered will be appreciated. -

Without looking at your case I cant give you a clear answer.

Again without looking at your log I cant give you a clear answer on if its agent error or incorrect part shipped. Usually what happens even if an agent dispatches the correct part but a different part arrives, that the part number in use has run out of stock and the next usable substitute is sent.
why do I "cutomer" have to stay on the phone and chat for hours to fix a problem "with laptop I've just got" that is as simple as sending the right part "copy, paste and done".
Again its more complicated then just copy paste and done. We cant guarentee that the specific part will be sent out. I have seen this happen with hard drives as well. I have had customers specify seagate hard drives and when I set up the dps for a seagate hard drive a western digital hard drive appears on their door. We can only submit the request as far as what part is sent out that is handled by a different department in a warehouse elsewhere. The end result should be a like part comparable to what you should have recieved.
by the way I work in large vet hospital and I was making a deal with dell to buy 20 desktops for our new hospital. Now I'm not sure I want to do that after the hell I went through.
And I apologize for the frustrations that you have gone through, we do our best to help our customers but sometimes there are things out of our control. If everything (setting up the dispatch, approving the dispatch, selecting the part, shipping the part) was handled by one person we wouldnt have a problem. But then again we would not be efficient enough to be able to handle the ammount of call volume we recieve everyday.
don't take me wrong. tech support and cutomer care people are very nice and helpful on the phone. but they are not doing the right thing after you hang up the phone.

AndyNguyen, somebody needs to do something. It may be that the techs just need to say, "no" and not take specific part orders for replacements. Because many of us have gone through considerable hassle of getting the techs to place the specific order in the first place, only to have it canceled or changed after the fact. And we are never notified of the fact. The real problem is that many of the screens are just not of good quality and this has been going on since the very first glossy appeared on a Dell notebook 3 years ago. So Dell has had plenty of time to fix the issue.
Basically your choices are to supply the LG screens when requested (no matter what Dell's processes are, this should not be a concern of the customer. If one arm of Dell can start something and another undoes it, then that is a significant problem within Dell) or to have all these notebooks returned for a refund. -

Say,I have an idea.
Since XPS is Dell's top of the line product, why not just utilize the best(LG)displays in the XPS lineup, and put the other manufacturer's displays in the lower cost Laptops, i e problem solved.
Look how much time and revenue Dell would save not having to send out sevice calls/parts ,build and ship replacement laptops over and over, not to mention how much more satisfied the customer base would end up being.
Ahh,if only I could be CEO for a while
-
And the problem we are coming across is we have 2 WSXGA+ screens. On one hand we have people saying that that the samsungs are fine and on the other hand we have quite a few more voiced customers that are calling in on this issue.
According to our hardware warranty we are to replace the part with a like or better system. Our tools does not recognize that the LG and Samsung are of different quality as they are both WSXGA+ screens. Now I do agree with you on a personal level after seeing dvmxps1530's pictures of the difference in quality and there should be something done to correct this. But there really isnt much I or anyone can do to correct this problem. -
Lol
I wish it was that simple, but your asking that question to the wrong guy. Handling escalated issues on a case by case basis is one thing. Making decisions for a leading computer company is another.
Although if I had the choice I would go with the latter c):-D -

Michael Dell certainly could , but he's much more interested in aquistion of power/wealth than personal pride in the product that bears his name. -
No comment -__- lol
-
That's a load of crap. YOU might not be able to do much about the problem, but I bet you could contribute to the solution rather than try to dissuade people from attempting to get good screens or to believe nothing can be done about it. But the idea that there isn't anyone who could about the problem is so absurd it's mind blowing that you could have even made that statement.
Let's all give up on this. It's just like the weather, and death and taxes. If you get a good screen, you're lucky, if not you should just deal with what you got.
As a Dell rep, if you are going to post here, let be action toward improvement. -
Or just return the laptop if you get a sub standard screen. If the screen is as bad as people say and as the pictures show, it is obviously a defective product.
-
I think you misunderstand me, Im not saying no dont go for the LG screens, thats not what I am saying at all. I am trying to give you insight on what goes on when you call in and get something set up. And in reality its something you should know about. The truth of the matter is that when your specifying a part from a certain manufacture we can no longer guarentee that part will be ordered according to your specifications. And if we did thats just setting false expectations and I believe we call that "Dell lied to me". Thats not to say that you shouldnt go and call us to try to get that screen.
As far as I know to set up dispatch for the LG screen is simple, both you and I have to cross our fingers and hope for the best. If not, we try again.
If there is any updated information on this issue, or another way to send out the LG screen, I will let you know about it but from my experience I have only dealt with 5 cases with customers calling in requesting for an LG screen.
As far as contributing to the problem I will let some people know of this issue so it can become more aware. -
OMG! Night and day! Thx for posting those pics man, really appreciate it.
REP! -
I wish we can make a poll thread to write just the screen size , made, and good or bad. the thread has to stay on top of the threads all the time. this way we all know how much % exactly Dell sending good screen or bad screen.
so one of the Modertors has to be involved.
does any one agree? -
so you have 2 1530's? I'm confused lol
-
No only one. the others are all replacements . when they send me one I return the old one. I took the photos before I send it back.
-
That is a lot of work to get a good screen. Are the ones they send you new and do you have to pay for shipping?
Hope you get your good screen. -
Yes they were new. and No I don't have to pay for anything. if they only get it right the first time.
Just got my 3rd XPS1530. Beautiful screen.
