this thread certainly put a question mark in the minds of future dell buyers..

Hmm very silly question, but how do you check what screen you got? I have received the 1530 today, and i have suspicions that its a non LG one, since the angles are bad. Its a 1280x800 screen. I tried checking device manager --> monitor --> but i see only "Non-pnp-compatible monitor" installed. System is running Vista Home Premium

Hi!
DVMXPS1530, i was ordering the WXGA+. I guess I can get the LG someway (anyway i live in italy).
I like 1440 res. But I can use 1680 too, with DPI on 120.
I just wonder about the possible difference between WXGA+ and WSXGA+ if both are LG.
Had "your" WXGA+ LG good viewing angles? because, if it has got good viewing angles, i would choose it. More bright (on paper is 250nit vs 200), and cheaper. So i could take the T7700...!
If it has got not good viewing angles, i should go for WSXGA+, but I fear it is not as birght as the first one. And with a True Life, sometimes it is good to have a very bright screen, to win on the reflectivity...
Also, for many reasons I am less sure I can get an LG on that.
Tell me that WXGA+ has got good viewing angles, please! -

So do you send the whole system back and then have them replace it?
OR like do you rebuy a new one and hope it's the right screen?
I know may be silly question sorry. -
-
if you are replacing screen. the technician will receive it and bring it to your place and replace it and he will take the old one with him to shipp it back. -
Very WELL!
So now I just have to find out if it is better the 160 or the 200 giga HD (both 7200rpm), and I can close the order!
I already decided for the T7700 vs the T7500 even if for 100 euro more, because I felt more tranquill. If I will still fell the laptop to be slow, I will know it was not my fault! -
I chose to return the LG equipped one because it was just too bright and washed out. Playing with settings in the nVidia control panel helped but the colours were just blah on the LG. They both came set at 100% brightness on AC power set in the BIOS, upping the brightness is still possible via the nVidia Control Panel however. -
DES MX, u'r in the right place!
get back to the 'non=pnp-compatible monitor' page
the word 'description' or 'details' should be nearby. click it and you'll
be taken to a page where the monitor type is described. Mine read:
LPLDF00 which I believe means its a LG screen 1440x 900.
good luck. -
i just recieved my replacement, and have the LG Screen!! I put it side by side to the wsxga samsung and not even close! The lg BLOWS IT AWAY..
I had no issues with the colors or screen being washed out..
You don't even notice how bad the Samsung sec3350 is until they are butted up against each other. the samsung was no where near as bright or vibrant.
The Samsung had a yellowish tint, grainy and no viewing angles. I love mine so much so, that i had an issue with the bezel under the cam and chose to have it repaired, then getting it replaced and lose the great LG screen.. -
congrats on u'r new system! enjoy!

what is the part number for the good WSXGA+ 1680x1050 screen?
I think i'm going to call for a replacement and install it myself. it sickening to look at how bad the screen looks compared to my 5 year old sony vaio. -
), but here you say that the Samsung was WSXGA+. This means that your replacement was a totally different notebook, not just the LCD? And so are you comparing the WSXGA+ Samsung with the WXGA+ LG?
I will take the WXGA+ LG, as it seems it has got good viewing angles.
but when someone has got the possibility to compare the WXGA+ LG with the WSXGA+ LG, it would be great! (maybe DVMXPS when you will receive the right WSXGA+?) -

DES MX, i'm sorry--my well-intended 'steps' to help identify what screen u have were incomplete.
just in case u still need the answer:
Go to classic view setting of CONTROL PANEL
right click 'Device Manager'
right click 'Monitor'
right click 'generic PnP monitor'
right click 'details' at top of page
right click 'service description' under Property
right click 'hardware id' -

Have you posted them too? I am sure they are the same (I had a SEC3350), but in an italian forum I have created athread on XPS M1530 displays, some more pictures would be good (I can tell you that we already posted your other ones, very appreciated!)...
Good Luck! -
My replacement was the same unit except for the LCD... -
I was also one of the unfortunate Dell XPS M1530 customers that received the SEC3350 panel. I purchased two systems about 1.5 weeks ago on the same day and both shipped with the SEC3350 panels.
I had not performed the pro-active research many of you completed prior to your purchase and I assumed the screen would be excellent given that I purchased their highest-quality laptop and screen -- the 1680 x 1050. Within minutes after booting my system it was obvious that I had a screen problem as the white areas were extremely grainy and had a sandy / crystallized look. I booted the 2nd laptop I received and found the same grainy texture.
I googled on "XPS1530 grainy" and learned quickly of the problem I was facing. I contacted technical support and they were not aware of the problem. I told them of the numerous post on this website and they agreed to replace the screen on both systems. I specifically requested the Phillips LG given the other posts I read but they could not promise a specific manufacturer replacement would be shipped. Two days later the field tech person called me to setup an appointment to replace the panels on both systems and I asked him to check the item # on the panels that were shipped to him and he responded by stating "Samsung SEC3350". Rather than waste his and my time, I canceled the service tickets and called Customer Service to return both laptops.
While canceling the order, Customer service attempted to appease me by offering to try and replace the panels again and/or further discount my purchase price given the problems. I did not have the energy to continue battling the problem and kindly returned both laptops and am moving on to another vendor to fulfill my laptop order. -
Centrino means Core 2 Duo processor + Intel Chipset + Intel Wireless card.
If any one or more of those 3 are missing, the Centrino label does not apply.
Therefore, if, instead of the Intel 3945 or 4965, you buy the Dell wi-fi card, your laptop will be branded as only Core 2 Duo, and not Centrino. -
You are a genius. I am getting really angry with Dell. i can accept a mistake, I can accept that they try to send mixed displays, some good and some less good, I can accept that they do NOT give the chance to choose the model (if they decide to offer different quality displays, they MUST give the chance of a choice), I can accept that in italy I cannot return a notebook bought as business, because only private customers have got return policy, and I can accept that they (casually?) let the SEC3350 as THE ONLY model available as WSXGA+ on D830. But I CANNOT ACCEPT that they try to lie us. Escalation Italy tells me that SEC3350 is wonderfull and there is no problem with it. Italian Customer Care (but they are french) told me that I was exagerating and that people go in forums just to lament so it does mean nothing all what I can find in the web. And now you an other people, obviously liying us, "we are not aware"... You are not aware that we are aware that you are liers. And we will avoid you all the time we can. Remember, Dell. Selling us crappy display is bad thing. Telling us that there is no suche a problem as "grainy" samsung displays is disgusting. Taking us as stupids by telling us that you are not aware, is the last drop.
I have just lost my faith on you, Dell. -
Question: the wireless N on XPS 1530 is the 4965? In Italy they just say "intel wireless N" (they no more sell Dell N as it was giving problems). Is this 4965 A-B-G and N? All N are compatibles with A,B and G, or they must specify A, B, G, N?
-
I believe it should specify ABGN. I think N can ususually join B and G networks. Not sure if it can join A networks.

I need some advice regarding the WXGA 1280 x 800 screen on my XPS M1530. I'm currently on my 2nd unit after returning the 1st for other reasons. The first had the NU763 LPL0301 panel, seems to be well liked on the forums. While it was bright, it had a washed out look and backlight bleed issues. This one has already gone back to Dell.
Now I am on my 2nd which has the RP636 Samsung "generic" WXGA panel. At first I preferred it because it seemed to have better colour density and virtually no back light bleed, it is noticeably darker than the LG though. There is some grain and lack of white but what is really noticeable is the ripple or wave in the coating, I'm seeing it even in the office. I've also noticed that unless I am sitting directly in front of the laptop with the screen at a 90deg angle to the keyboard visibility is markedly reduced.
Are other users of the Samsung equipped WXGA panel seeing the same issues or did I just get a bad one? -
So, I guess that Samsung can be having problems with coatings. Yes. -
I'm wondering if I should go via Tech Support this time or Customer Care again, not looking forward to it either way. -
In Italy technicians are REALLy wonderfull. They are THE BEST of Dell here. Well, my sales rep is very good too. But generally speaking...
If there is the same, they should have no problem in solving your problem...
Just got my 3rd XPS1530. Beautiful screen.
