When I tried to install my T9300 processor into the D830, it wouldn't boot up.

I have the REV5 BIOS and there is a REV9 BIOS out.

Could the bios have anything to do with it?

When I upgrade the bios, does the upgrade the harddrive or the motherboard?

    Thanks

    Probably.

I believe that the BIOS is stored in flash memory on the motherboard, and it just updates that.

Anyway, I did a BIOS update on my D630, it's no big deal, just go for it.

As far as I know, the new BIOS provides support for the Penryn processors. So that might be it. Your current BIOS may be unable to detect and support the new processor.
