Well, after playing with it for a few hours, resizing partitions, running updates, installing everything.... I have got to say for $800 I am extremely pleased with this laptop! Great performance, very fast for only a 1.6, as I was looking for an affordable, but good laptop.

I was really worried that my screen would be one of the "grainy" ones. And in a way, it is, if you look super closely, you can sort of see a little grain, but I think its part of the true life / glossy look or "film" that is on the screen itself.

But, I have to say, its nowhere near as bad as many made it out to be. Screen brightness is amazing, very vibrant and clear.

I'll try to get some screens and photos of it to help put my words into perspective, but for those who worried much like I have, have a little faith in dell, and don't take some of the critiques on this site too seriously. lol
I'll get the exact screen model for ya'll A.S.A.P....

Also, as mentioned above, this was sort of a medium budget system, 800~ish.... so I "didn't" get the 8600GT. I may regret it later down the road, but I have my main "gaming tower" for... well... gaming, lol.... I just wanted this to be capable of running games on low to medium settings for on the go, so once I run a few apps, such as Counter Strike Source, and EverQuest II, I'll let ya know how they ran as well!

    Thanks for reading! :)

I just got mine today. I haven't read all the reviews. For the price I can't see why anyone would complain about this computer. Then again the only thing I am using it for is surfing the net and some Office stuff.

I was impressed when the 802.11g network card picked up the signal of my D-Link Extreme N router within minutes of booting. Not to mention, the internet connection was loading pages faster than the computer hard wired to the router!

Do you mind telling us what panel you got?

Goto Device Manager/Monitors/double click Generic PnP Monitor/Details tab/in the scroll down, select Hardware ID.

    Thanks

Sure! Just checked it, its an AUO2077. Not sure if thats the same model# that everyone else has been having problems with.

I did notice the high-pitched whining while using the headphone jack, but with some music, it can be drowned out easily. I read somewhere that dell plans to fix it through a bios update, lol!

This is the first notebook we have owned. Does your hard drive make a lot of noise?

I have the 1500 and I got the basic LCD screen, didnt upgrade it at all. Im not exactly sure which one it is tho. But I love it, if you look really closely you see grainyness, but nothing bad. I play CS:S on almost max settings and I get 70fps. I also play Halo 2 PC on max settings and it runs beautifully. I love this laptop. BTW i got the 8600GT.
