This is my first impresion review of the i6000d.

    Inspiron 6000d
    PM 1.86GHz
    15.4" WSXGA+
    512 GB RAM (1 stick)
    128MB ATI X300
    60GB 7,200 RPM
    Truemobile 1450
    DVD burner

It is a little bigger than I expected. The monitor feels like a 17 inch. The text was a little blurry, but that was fixed by turning cleartype off. The text is a bit small. If you have problems reading small text then go with the xga. The text is not bad for me, but is smaller than expected. The uxga must be really small. I am most impressed with the keyboard. It is increadible. Great feel and size. I put in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory dvd. The picture looked great. It would have looked better if the dvd was the letter box version. Wifi range is better than my linksys G card.

Well time to install XP Pro and start tweaking.

    -------
    UPDATE

After using the i6000d, I have found a few things. I do have that sparkle effect. It is more like a dirty screen look when the background is a light color and especially white. Deep colors look great. The DVD player is a bit loud at times.

My Dell I6000D came with a Windows install disk but no driver disk (had to download and burn them myself off their site).

The Windows XP disk looks like the Application Re-Install disks though, so maybe it just blended in with the rest? Double check. Its labelled Operating System and its purple, and in tiny text it says "windows xp home with service pack 2"

i got home xp cd , and 2 win dvd cd, but no driver cd.
my display is good with cleartype on. i also installed dell quickset, with it, u can adjust the size of the menu and icons. the resolution is good, u can view 2 webpages at the same time, but some texts and graphics are blurry(not in webpages, it happens with some programs). i love briteview, i wish 6000 came with briteview option, then the display would be awsome. notebook is quiet, keyboard feels ok, but my left ctrl makes some weird sounds, and the left mouse button is bad too.

I just chatted with Dell. They said that driver and application cds are no longer sent out with orders. That is a stupid thing for Dell to do. She said they use system restore now. (whooped doo)

This causes a problem for me. I just installed a non Dell version of XP Pro. Some of those lame programs Dell throws on are useful. Like the mouse program. My scroll sliders on the touch pad do not work now.

Is there anybody else who has an i6000 installed a non Dell version of Pro? If so, have you been able to find any of those programs?

Can somebody post there current system information on a system that has the original version of Dell XP. To get there you have to log into dell, then go to My System & Peripherals. Enter your service tag. Then click on your service tag when it is a link. Click on Current System Configuration and then software. Highlight, copy and post in this thread. I know it is asking a bit, but it sure would help me.

    Thank you in advance.

I'd be intersted in this as well. I'll need to install XP Pro once my 6000d arrives, but I'd like to use all the apps that Dell ships with it as well. I'm sure they're available on the website somewhere, but I haven't seen them either.

The Windows XP CD that Dell gives you does not install anything but Windows XP. I used that CD to format my computer with Windows XP Home that I ordered (since you know, I like to be legit), and it did not install any Dell software. It looks like its just a clean Windows XP CD with the Dell logo printed on it.

On Dell's order page for the 6000 it does not give you the option for the 7200rpm hard drive. How do i know if i'm getting a 5400 or 7200 hard drive???

Thank you for the list. It has helped me a lot.

Hey Jimmy076, Dell is probably low on stock. They probably took it off the list because they are a few weeks out. You might want to call them up and order that way. It would take longer but the 7200 is the only way to go.

Hey I was wondering if you kept up with your order status? And if you did how long did it take to get your computer when it entered the boxing phase??

I recently purchased the 6000 with 730 chip and 1 GB ram. Computer seems slow and not much of a difference to my P4 1.7 desktop with 256 RAM. Any idea of how the chips compare to each other?
Battery life on the 9cell has also been weak Not much more than 3hours with normal usage (no Dvd playing)
