First off i should say that this site is great and has really helped me with purchasing my new laptop. You guys do an awful lot of good to people like me with not much clue!
Basically my vostro 1500 arrived today - it was supposedly a scratch and dent from the outlet store - its specs are pretty good for the price (2.00ghz, 160 gb, 2gb ram all for $840 total)
1) first off there is a dead pixel quite near the centre of the screen - could this be what they mean "scratch and dent"?. The screen is an LG so i managed to avoid the leakage screens.
2) I get the headphone jack problem. I could wait and hope that this problem is fixed in the future by dell as it seems those who have sent their comps back for repair havnt made any difference. Im a big music listener so its a big problem for me, which leads me on to my next issue...
3)the speakers are tinny. This is perhaps my biggest concern. Is there any way round this problem? could i install a better audio support? I could go and buy some new speakers but id like to avoid this.
4) A little sad but after a few hours of being stressed i find the mouse clicker a little squeeky!![]()
Im honestly not usually a fussy person when it comes to things like these but its a mixture of reading about other people's issues and the fact that i had an inspiron 8600 for 4 years which was a great laptop for my needs. Im also not made of cash at the moment which is why dell outlet was my only real choice for a new(ish) computer.
Is it possible for me to complain and send it back? Ive read about the screen having to have at least 5 dead pixels to get a replacement but perhaps i could complain about the headphone noise and get a whole new 1500.
Also does anyone know how it works when getting an outlet replacement, as i feel this was a pretty good deal.
Thanks
-
There are enough issues there to send it back... higher quality headphones will solve the interference noise. I have the same dead pixel in the center of the screen, but thats the only one, and I've never seen a screen so crisp and smooth before so I decided to keep it.
I plan on waiting 4-5 months and then sending it in to fix the earphone problem for good and any other quirks that come up and also gives them enough time to come up with a good solution to these issues (provided you got the warranty) -
ive got the base warranty which should protect me...
is there anyway to get round the speaker problem without spending a lot of money on external speakers?
also ive been using some pretty good sennheisers with the laptop so the quality of headphones is not the issue -
I think i might return it, especially as looking on the dell website i can get it new for only 100 bucks more (if i ring i could be able to get it reduced)..
does anyone know if/ how much ill have to pay to do this? -
Dell usually pay for the shipping costs but since its an Outlet stock it may be different. Its best to email Dell and ask them.
Just got my new Vostro - should/can I return it?
