Just had mine replaced a few minutes ago...
The bios is A06, should I flash to A05?
When the tech reassembled the laptop, she didn't apply any thermal paste and just used the old paste. Is that ok?
The laptop seems warmer in general on idle...

Regarding the cpu whine, the new A04 bios didn't get rid of it. It's just a bit quieter now, still noticeable if you listen for it. I've learned to ignore it

About how much quieter is it?
The dell technician is coming tmw to replace my motherboard, was it gruesome watching them take apart your precious m1330? :/

edit; now it's up in the 60s... i'm not even doing anything!!
    edit2 5 seconds later; wtf 70s

I totally understand how you feel by now.

I felt my system was raped when a field tech came to replace LCD on my first system, broke some stuff inside. I was yelling at the guy in my office lol.

Got new replacement after so I was okay at the end.

I just hate the fact that many techs don't care about the system like it's theirs, and leave the customers feel worse than prior to repairs.

    Now I'm nervous about tomorrow...
1/4 of original whine? That's great news.

AHH...I really hope my technician knows what he's doing....D:
I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of getting a replacement

    Hmm..that's really high..
my m1330 stays around 37 all the time

60 isn't bad. Mine stays around at 4-5x on idle, but once I run stuff like virus scan etc/3dmark etc, it goes high as 8xC. It will also stay around in 6xC if it's sittin on my lap which will block the airflow on bottom.

MY CPU whine faded very soon after I got it (reformat got it out of its "system"?), and once I turned off Vista's indexing, the machine is basically silent. I can't hear the HDD, either, unless I put my ear to the machine, and even then, 4 GB RAM under Vista x64, ensures it is not constantly swapping.

I suppose if Dell ever upgraded the BIOS to have the motherboard accept 8 GB (once 4 GB chips are out and cheap enough), I could turn off the swap file and then it would be silent unless it actually needed to access a file.

Oh it's also really easy to apply Artic Silver 5 to the CPU if you really care about the CPU temp.

Just follow instruction on taking off the heat sink, and remove old gray crap on the CPU, apply the AS5 (not too much though).

I just did it for the first time (I talked to Dell, and they said it won't void warranty), and CPU idle temp is about 5C lower than before (it will get better - it needs healing time).

Don't apply to chipset, and GPU though, it doesn't look like you are supposed to.

Well, 37c is the hd temp, sorry about the confusion
I don't know my cpu temp...
I'm using hdtune to check on my temp, maybe Ishould find a cpu temp checking program..

workinprogress- yes they replace ur mobo for free, it's covered in the warranty, xps service, that's where all the money goes for xps systems

    Here's a program that's quite useful.

Read carefully on how to correct GPU temp though.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=185107

After applying AS5 to my CPU, and cleaning of GPU chip, peak temp after running 3dmark05 on CPU don't go above 75C, and GPU was 85C.

Lot of factors effect the temp, so I have to wait and see.

please give more detail about how you get your m1330 quiet by reformat and turned off Vista's indexing,
did you reformat the HD and install you own vista or you use the restore disk from dell.
    thanks
