Just installed Windows 7 64bit on my inspiron 1420 and its running fine. the only driver i'm having a hard time finding is "base system device" (location: PCI bus 3 device 1, function 3). i have no idea what it is and have no idea where to start looking for it. Dell's driver and suport website has to be one of the worst site ever cuz its soo hard to find anything. so if someone can help or have any idea i kind of need some help. and can someone show me were to get windows 7 64 bit drivers off the dell site? i'm looking to install the touch pad drivers so i can get more of the options and features. If you need more information just ask and i'll post

I'm looking for that driver as well, but are your speakers working? It detected a sound driver, but the speakers don't work at all. Seems to be a known issue, but if you fixed it I'd love to know how! THanks!

I'm working on the same issue.

I also had to install a new driver for the touchpad to get the scrolling to work, etc. I used the Win 7 64Bit driver from the Studio 1440 and it worked perfectly.

    Here it is:

    FIXED IT!

It's the SD Card Reader (Ricoh R5C833). This driver says 32Bit when you run it, but Dell's website indicates it is also the 64Bit version. Bottom line, it works:

I did the same thing, thanks for finding some drivers. I had the same idea on correcting the drivers issue, but couldn't navigate Dell's website without it driving me crazy.

You're more patient than me! Thanks!

the sigmatel audio driver for inspiron 1420 which comes bundled with the drivers and utilities CD just worked with me. and if you can increase the loudness also. to do this go the control panel>sound> enhancement and check the loudness equalization option, then click apply. i did this and my speakers are louder than before.
