After tax, total price is $1788.66 Canadian, which is about $1449.66USD.
Can anyone tell me if i made the right decision and is there reason to cancel my order? (also, how much time do i have to cancel an order??)
    the specs are:

    1.8ghz
    60gb hd
    cdrw/dvd combo drive
    512mb ddr sdram

Well, true, I didn't factor in warranty. That would definetaly push the price up. I was putting more of an emphasis though on the 512 mb more ram, and the better battery, but you're right, it would be more expensive with warranty and Dell's warranty is probably better.

You could have gotten the similar ranged HP DV1000 with better specs for a cheaper price. The only thing you sacrifice is 100 mhz in speed.

    1.7 ghz Pentium M
    14 inch BrightView screen
    1 gb ram
60 gb 5400 rpm drive, compared to 4200 rpm on 700m, I think
    cdrw/dvd combo
    Intel 2200 wireless
    12 cell battery
and the multimedia stuff the DV1000 offers like remote and headphones for $1423.98 US Dollars, which is compared to your $1449.66 USD, so the HP is cheaper (though I don't know what happens if you factor in Tax or something like that, but it still is a good deal).

ballin4life thanks for the quick reply,
i'm pretty sure that hp is a really good deal
but i live in canada...and we have always have the crappier laptops which are more expensive (just look at the dell coupons)
but the closest thing to what you have is this from bestbuy.ca
    http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=20001&sku_id=0926INGFS10050734&catid=20354&newdeptid=20352

and that's already more than what i paid for the dell 700m
plus the dell 700m is only 4lbs

As long as you don't intend to do ANY gaming, you are fine with teh m700. If you are looking for a thin and light gaming laptop get a m600, it still is not fast enough to be competitive, but it would suffice for running games at tuned down settings. However, the m600 does not support DirectX 9.0 which namely includes PS 2.0 (the m700 dosen't either) PS 2.0 is going to be important if you ever want to use the AeroGlass effects of Windows Longhorn.

In my opinion I reccomend the i6000 (With the Mobility Radeon X300) if you are going to be a casual gamer, and you can get it for less than $1000 if you use the $500 off coupon (Coupon Code: CG3VLZX4?Z$796). It will smear teh m700 and m600 all over the floor when it comes to gaming.

    Hope this helps you.

    Inspiron 8600 * WUXGA * Intel Pentium M (Dothan) 725 (1.6 GHz) * 1024 MB of DDR333 * Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo with 128 MB @ 350/250 * 60 GB HD 5400RPM * CDRW/DVD Combo Drive

wow it really sucks to buy laptops in canada...
i think it's pretty hard to get an inspiron 6000 with the 128mb vid card for less than $1600 Canadian. We don't get any of those kickass coupons you guys have in the States. I had a -$100 coupon for this purchase..... Please tell me if you find a better one though lol
It was a really tough decision when i was shopping the this laptop. It wasn't pretty, but i think this laptop will do because it is really fast and light so i can bring it with me around campus and the battery won't die out on me while i'm there.

I originally had an a70-kl1 from toshiba which i had to return because of static problems, and i guess it really proved to me that 8 lbs is a bit too much to carry on a daily basis.

As for gaming, most of you will probably laugh at me, but i really don't have any expectations since i'm coming from a p3 866mhz with nvidia's crappiest 32mb video there is. Even though the video card was very bad (i bet first version CS will run smoother on the 700m), it was a very worth desktop computer from dell and ive' used it for almost 5 years now and it's still running just fine as i use it right now. Also, i've noticed that some 700m users seem to be able to run average games under medium to low quality on the 700m with the measly intel extreme 2 graphics. I think that's all that i'm looking for, as long as the games run and don't lag that much. I hope it can run nba live 2005 b/c it's only 20bucks now haha.

I've had a few hours to think about my decision and i really can't think of a better computer.

The reason i didn't get the inspiron 6000 is because i don't think it's worth the difference in size and weight (unless of course, bigger is better) if it doensn't have a video card. The i6000 that i was gonna order had a final price of $1650 with the GMA900 graphics so it's basically a $100 dollar difference for a much more compact and portable computer. As for the small screen on the i700, i can always use an old monitor if it really is that hard to read things and i will have 30 days to decide how good of a product it is upon receiving it.

On a final note, i know it's been mentioned before but i just want to clear up any confusion for other new laptop buyers (who are like myself) about the dell inspiron 6000.
*IF THE INSPIRON 6000 COMES WITH INTEL INTEGRATED GMA 900 GRAPHICS, THERE IS NO PCI EXPRESS SLOT FOR FUTURE UPGRADE AT ALL.
ONLY THE I6000S THAT COME WITH A VIDEO CARD HAVE THE PCI EXPRESS SLOT THE X300 CARD IS ALREADY IN IT.*

i think i've rambled on enough...congratulations if you read all of that haha. I can't wait to receive my inspiron 700m!!

You will enjoy the 700m over the DV1000 since the weight advantage is a plus. The only reason that I didn't get the 700 m over the i6k was that the keyboard isn't full sized.

    Dell Inspiron 6000
    1.6 GHZ Centrino (Sonoma)
    WUXGA 15.4" WS
    512 MB RAM

    Wireless B/G
    DVD/CD-RW
    9 Cell Battery x 2
    Mozilla Firefox Browser

I just got a 700M here in the states, and it is incredible. You won't regret, it was supposed to ship 2/25 and ended up shipping todays earlier and arriving on the originial ship date. Light, easy to use and with the bigger battery batter life isn't a big deal. Wait till you see movies with the widescreen, it's unlike anything you've seen on a laptop before. Enjoy!
