Well I ordered the Dell after exhaustive research. The deal could not be matched by any Asus,HP (which indicated a build date of DEC 11!!) or Compal as listed below.

    2.0 Core 2 Duo
    2 gig RAM @ 667
    100 SATA 7200 rpm
    17" SXGA+
    7900gs 256 VC
    8 x DVD +/- RW
    4 USB ports
    Firewire
    Express PC slot
    Media reader
Windows MCS w FREE Vista UG
    Restore Disks
    1 year warranty

    $1498.50 shipped.

I could not pass up a 25% off coupon. If it runs half as good as my highly abused 4year old refurb 8600 which is still going strong I will be happy.

I ordered mine with just the 20% off coupon because I didn't want to sign up for Dell's payment plan. I read bad stories about it. The coupons are very easy to find. Search "Dell coupon 20%" in google. I think they even have it somewhere on this site or forum.

That is a great deal. I honestly can't compare system prices because I opted to upgrade my warranty from the standard 1yr to 3yrs + accidental damage.

Thanks all. Yeah I signed up for the Dell Credit thing but I was going to use Paypal anyway and will pay it off on the first bill. I just wanted the extra 5 points to get it under $1500.

On second thought I should have used the Amex and got the credit card warranty extension. But I never think of Extended Warranties when purchasing stuff. Don't buy em. Since a similarly configured Clevo, Asus, or Compal was over $2200 I figure I did well. Yeah its ugly but paying only $1500 for the configuration is pretty enough.
