Well after tons of looking, I finally decided on the XPS M1210. Hopefully it'll be like a son to me for the next 3-4 years![]()
Anybody else have one and like it/dislike it?
-
FYI .. new model coming out next month to replace it.
-
Wasn't a concern to me, actually it was better, because they had $200 off on the 1210. The 1330 will be close to $2500 with good specs, and that's too much $$.
-
1210 is a nice laptop, congrats.
specs/price? -
How do you know that?
-
1330 is going to be $$$$

Got ours about a week ago. A fairly basic version, for my daughter to take to college. (No graphics card.) So far, I like how it runs with 2GB of RAM. Vista Aero was a little sluggish with just 1GB, but it wasn't horrible. Build quality seems good. She wanted a laptop with a 12-inch screen, but that's a bit small for my tastes (and aging eyeballs).

Does Dell have extreme price cuts during/before releasing new models?
-
Grats, the m1210 is an excellent notebook, you will love it.As far as the 1330 goes, it's overated, wedge shape computers suck and 13 inch screens do not qualify as ultra portable. -
They have in the past...

I'm still getting one

m1210's design hits a good balance between simplicity and elegance imo... I was hoping the m1330 to have similar footprint and improvement on the original (thinner, lighter, side intake fans, bigger screen to frame ratio, passive cooling option, aggressive power saving functions, better speakers... etc etc) but it looks like they came out with a different product.
-
Anyone know who is making the m1330 for Dell?
-
I've had an XPS M1210 for a few months now and I love it. It's got a load of USB ports, and is fast as hell. I think that once my thesis is written I'm going to repartition the drive, however, to run Ubuntu on it. I like elements of Vista, but it's not as fast as I'd like on my system.
-
I'm interested to find out this information as well.
Didn't ASUS make the M1210? -
Soooo, did I miss the $200 instant rebate?
-
Tomorrow is the last day (at least in Canada). There's also a free update to 2 GBs of RAM... not sure when/if that ends though.
-
I didn't see the $200 rebate yesterday so it mustve ended...grr.
-
Today, Dell's Deal of the Day in the U.S. is the M1210 with $225 off instantly. You can configure a well equiped M1210 for about $1,500.

Hey,
Drew4008, if your willing to spend $1689 on a laptop technology that dates back to early 2007, why not wait for 1 more month and get a much much better one. The M1330 has Santa Rosa, 800Mhz FSB, better support for Vista etc...
Why waste so much money on a laptop dell is about to discontinued??? I just don't get it. Wait my Canadian friend, you will regret what your doing. You will be even more pissed after seeing dell post up their new shiny M1330 on their website. If its not too late, cancel the order and wait 1 month. Look, you got people over the world that waited 3, 6, 8 months for the M1330; and 1 month is not going to hurt. I waited 4 months for the new Latitude D630 with graphics card to come out.
I have recommendations that will help ease the costs of your current M1210. However, i don't think its a good idea buying it at this time.
- First, you don't need a 120gb HD, bigger HD tend to slow down once they are full-also as the months fly by, HD prices seem to drop steeply.
- You could buy your own memory at the store for much cheaper price than dell has to offer.
- The processor isn't that fast for a total of $1700.
- Wise choice on battery selection though. go here and at the bottom http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=132127&page=8 -
Nice deal! $899 base price, and they toss in the video card for free
-
err? where is this $899 deal we speak of?
-
Ugh I'm not seeing this deal...but that guy may have talked me into waiting for the M1310. I just hope it's not too expensive.
-
-
Well $230 or so was MS Office and McAfee Antivirus. For the same kind of customization on a 1330, I'm guessing it will be ~ $2300 Canadian. Which is jsut too much for me. And the RAM update was free, I didn't pay more for it.

I am working on configuring one right now, probably going to purchase. There are a few things im unsure of
1) t5600 or t7200 processor (i am on a budget or id just go with the 7200, but how much actual performance increase would i see?)
2) Batteries. How long will a 6 cell last me for watching a DVD movie on a plane? I am thinking of opting for a 6 AND 9 cell, so I can use the 9 cells on long trips, and its only 30 dollars more to get a 6 cell with the 9 cell.
Thanks~ -
I configured a pretty nice one for $839 today after discounts so you would have to get like everything to get it up to $1500.
-
I would go with the T7200 if you're looking for CPU performance. If you don't do anything that intensive then the T5600 will be plenty. Definitely get the 9 cell battery. Battery life will not be that great on the 6 cell.
-
6 cell is about 2:45, 9 cell is ~ 4:20... from what I've read.
Just ordered an XPS M1210
