How the heck did you get it so low? I configured it exactly to your specification, and it came out $500 higher. Is this some special pre-configured model?

    http://www.xpbargains.com/dell_coupons/
    Scroll down to Current coupons.

Dell always have some sort of promotion going on. Always advisable to google up Dell+coupon when buying from them. Hope this helps :)

Edit: I'm fairly new here, I think you have thorough knowledge of the coupon stuff. I tried out the config with the coupons to make sure, it comes about right.

I ordered mine the 16th, a day after the coupons came out and while they had the rebate going on; which I think later in the day the removed. ( I ordered it at 3am)

    Standard + 2.0Ghz duo + 17'' Trulife + Geforice 7800 + Intel 3945 for 2072 - $650 coupon - $250 rebate + tax = ~$1265 total net price

Also, when you come to the list of 4 E1750s to customize be sure to pick the second from the right (not the left 2 or the right one). The right one is a solo and the left 2 have unwanted warranties.... unless you want them :p .

The current 20% off sale on higher priced systems is more than the $650.

I set up both an E1705 quote on the home site and a i9400 on the small business site. Some of the minor options are different but trying to be as similar as possible the prices were very close.

On the home E1705 site the $650 discount resulted in a slightly higher price than the 20% off. The $650 discount is only for the home side, not small business.

The supposedly Feb special I got a mailing from for a affilation group discount (NASD) url link doesn't work. But I suspect the discount there is less than the 20%.

I also checked the outlet store but too new to have any available.

I am trying to determine if the 8x DVD option is the NEC or SONY or which is the Combo unit. Lots of bad reviews of the Sony but great for NEC, but I don't know which is which and nothing on this board or Dell's to tell from my searches.

I somewhat prefer the options on the small business side so am about to order once I try and talk to Dell on which DVD is which.

I have extensively reserached both laps and desktops since I want to get new for both. Current computers were top of line but 3-4 years ago and I especially want dual core.

For laps Intel is the very top winner with the Core Duo vs AMD. The Core Duo is almost as fast as the top AMD desktop chip.

But for desktops the AMD newest duals are FAR better than the best EE955 of Intel. I just ordered a Polywell with the top FX60 AMD chip.

But for laps, I love what I read about the 17" wide screen ultra and mostly very good reviews for the i9400/E1705. Am getting the T2500 2.0 Ghz since T2600 seems too much more for small speed difference, but maybe more heat. Also largest drive and fastest 2gig memory options.

    Good luck!

    Ditto!

Dell says they add free stuff in the higher priced models but they add on cost too. Before I bought my 9300, I tried all 4 and the cheapest one with the one on the right and this is with all the exact same specs. I think is was about a $250 difference or so.

I was lucky, I also had a $750 off coupon, $100 off processor upgrade, and free shipping.

I agree, you really have to pay attention to what you are doing. I have to admit, if not for this forum I never would have stumbled upon the $650 'affliate' discount.

So you only payed 1265 for that laptop? How did you get that extra 250 off? I can only come up with $1,826.00 for

    2.0 Duo, 17" trulife, geforce 7800, 9 cell battery,

Well I had originally ordered the laptop with the same spec, for 1530, but with a 1.66 base duo. This was with a $200 off coupon and factoring in the $250 rebate on the 14th. But on the next day Dell released their usual 300, 500, and 650 off coupons.

I configured my system again, and I could get the same system but with the 2.0 processor for 1265 with a 650 off and 250 rebate. So I placed the order and waited the next morning to cancel my previous order. This was at 3am btw. So next day I call them and cancelled, and when I went to Dell's site I noticed they yanked the 250 rebate. Instead they had 20 percent off which you couldn't combine with the coupons.

I guess they had the rebate and coupon overlap for about a day, because I noticed one other poster on here took advantage of it as well. I guess it's just timing; my friend got a good deal on a desktop as well last year because of the an overlap, not sure if it's intentional or they just don't check it.

I guess you have to google up for coupons and check on Dell's website as much as you can; sometimes it pays off.

Edit: And this forum and website as well :)
