After considering it for a few days I just took the plunge and ordered my Vostro 1500! I've been chewing over the idea trying to justify why I need a laptop, and found this forum a great source of information (lots of searching and reading!) so decided to register and say thanks to everyone :)

I'm based in the UK and ordered:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 Processor (1.8GHz,800MHz,2MB L2 cache)
Genuine Windows Vista Business - English
    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024)
    160GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive
    256 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    Microsoft Works 8.0 - English
    15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display
    Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
    Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)

£527.28 which is a very good price I think. Estimated delivery isn't until 31/8 though :(

Time to play the waiting game!

    Cheers,
    Malc

    Good configuration there!

Just so us yanks can compare, Im converting to American:

    527.28 GBP = 1,075.58 USD

    and

    31/8 = 8/31 (grin)

I had a hard time justifying why I need a laptop. I ended up taking the plunge too. I hope we both are happy with the choice.

i'm tired of waiting. 3 weeks to make a laptop is ridiculous. i think i may cancel and just wait for a better deal.

Actually, the system you listed configures for $1,372 USD right now, but thats before any sort of coupons or discounts. I think people generally find a way to get about $300 off, although I dont see any current vostro coupons. At $300 off the price would be practically identical.

As a jet black Inspiron 1520, the price would have been a little cheaper, you could have had the exact configuration, except with a 7200RPM drive, for $1008 (493GBP) using the standard $300 coupon.

I went for the same spec as you, although added a few extras like bluetooth and truelife. I have the same EDD too, so it will be interesting to see who's comes first.

    Yeah F355 :)

I was tempted by truelife but I heard it makes the screen quite reflective.

The Inspiron 1520 is loads more expensive than the Vistro on the UK site :(
