I just ordered the laptop today and did a 2nd business day shipping. Right now it's "In Production" stage, just wondering how long it takes for Dell to ship the laptop out??
-
With your config, I would say about a week. I got one with the WUXGA screen when it was on backorder and that only took 8 business days.
-
okay thanks alot
-
Check your confirmation emails, it's probably going to vary greatly depending on the system and configuration.
FWIW, I ordered a Vostro 1500 on Thursday (16th) and it stated an estimated ship date of one week later (23rd), even with changes to the configuration I wanted. -
hopefully I get the laptop before next month because I'm going back to college for summer school...
-
It depends. Some people get it in a week, some people in a month.
Anything on your order out of stock? What did they give you as an estimated ship date? -
well it says ESD 06/03 and EDD 06/05... because I did the 2nd business day shipping method. I would actually like to have my laptop in at least a week and a half considering I paid extra for shipping!!
-
-
bnp- first congrats on your order. I think you will be very happy with it. I would periodically call the order status number (1-800-433-9014) to see what stage of the "in production" status you are in. Kitting will be first, which could take some time depending on if there are any backorders or shortages of the various components necessary to build your XPS. Recently there has been backorders due to LCD's and 250 GB HDD's. Next you will go to build, then to testing, then boxing, then shipping.
In my case, the kitting took a while due to shortages of my LED screen. Build took 3 days, testing only took 2 hours, boxing took 4 days and shipping was next day. All in all, it took Dell 3 weeks to get me my laptop, with a delay. It was worth the wait. -
danggg haha I want it sonner! but thanks for all this information
-
Anyone else get stuck in Build for an extended length of time? -

ordered 5/12...so i guess 7 days now, still "in production" stage. called a brother up from dell around 10:45am pacific time, declined to give me an early estimated ship date from one assigned on website (5/28). Also declined to state why the notebook was taking so long to be built, saying "it is a high end system".
-
I'm serious, that ASUS M50 looks pretty sweet. Dell bumps me back from my ESD and I'll be all over that. I want an M1530, but I see guys on this board who ordered in April and are now being pushed back until June. I realize it's often a parts supply issue, but from the consumer's perspective it's simply a ridiculous amount of time to wait for something like a laptop. -

Brother Fountainhead,
I was actually debating between the Asus F8sn-C1 and the xps m1530 for the last month or so. I guess in the end I chose the XPS because of the HDMI port but I'm paying for it by this wait time...hopefully good things come to those who wait right? -
Agreed. And it's especially ridiculous when a delay is caused by a standard 6-cell battery. You'd think they would get enough of those as it's pretty much an essential part of a laptop. :-\
And yes, patience is not one of my virtues. -
-
-
-
Been in the build stage since April 30th and still noooo changes.
-
Wow thats crazy because... thats almost a whole month on the build stage!!
-
I called today and they told me its the battery holding it up. They told me they would 'expidite' my order, and call me back tomorrow with some more info. If I don't hear back, i'll call again. I hope they suggest I cancel. I am so ready to flip out on them when they do that.
-
WHAT?? I called today too and they said "I'm sorry sir... Dell does not expidite orders." So I was like okay thank you BYE!! "Have a good day sir." CLICK!

It has been "in production" since last Monday when I ordered it. What's with the holdup, Dell? Lasted time I ordered back in 2006, you filled my ultra-configurized order in almost no time. I looked on the website since I was curious, and I found out that Inspiron laptop orders are filled within five days or less. Then why is is OK for customers who order XPS and pay premium dollars only to be pushed around like second-rate customers with delay after delay after delay? People who pay less get better and faster service? Is that how Dell works these days?
Anyway, I can't wait until I get my laptop! -
Yah thats true, because anytime I call Dell it seems like the reps are pissed of and have an automated response... In the several times I've called I think only one person sounded like they actually wanted to help and give good advice, otherwise the rest of the reps I spoke too sound like computers.
-
-
Damn 9 cell batteries..
-
I tried to get them to comp me a 9 cell so it ships sooner. The rep told me that would delay it further.
Next I will ask if they can just send it without a battery and i'll run it off the AC adapter. -
Lefix or anybody that knows..
I saw your system config. on your sig., and I was wondering if the M1530 comes with the LED LCD display with the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) also?? -
LED LCD is currently only offered for 1440x900 on the 1530 from what I know.
-
-
No problemo. I do know it's considered to be an excellent screen....
-
Ugh...I guess we'll all have to wait for this laptop. I guess demand really outstripped supply this time around, and the head honchos at Dell grossly miscalculated the demand for the M1530. Oh well we'll just slowly chug along the queue line waiting for SONY to get their act together and make more batteries!
-
I wanted to know if the Dell XPS M1530 (PRODUCT) RED has the finger print reader, because it wasn't in the configurations when you customize the laptop on the Dell website.
But, if you go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/joinred/dell.aspx
And click the middle laptop which is the Dell XPS M1530, under it's little bullet description it says, "Includes biometric finger print reader and built-in webcam."
I don't know if it really does though, because when you customize the configurations the finger print reader option is not there. If anybody knows can you please tell me, I hope it comes with my order!! -
LED is very nice and it is brighter and saves a bit more energy than regular screen.. 1440x900 is very good, but i like the 1680x1050 too, and they don't have it in that resolution at this time but it doesn't hurt to get it in 1440x900..
-
Wow...I'm really bored...
[Checks Dell Order Status]
Damn. Still "in production".
Well, I googled "T8300" on Google and clicked on the first link. The T8300 must be the most pimpest, gangsta, playa on the processor market. The part number is SLAPA. Sound like slappa (I'm not sure what its slang for, or if it is even slang, but it does sound gangsta-like.)
Wow...I am really bored. School's winding down, and I have nothing to do, except wait for this marvelous creation to make it from Malaysia to my doorstep...and yet the waiting saga continues...

Guys, what do you think? Do you think I should cancel the order for the M1530 because the demand is too high and I am too impatient to wait for this piece of junk to arrive in the mail. I already have the sense that I will be delayed more than once because batteries are short in number and many people who ordered a few days after I did are receiving delays that are much later than anticipated. I am thinking about ordering the Sager NP2092, which is a competitively priced machine with the same horsepower as the M1530. So what do you think I should do? Wait or cancel?
Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I do have a legitimate concern that may or may not apply to others who are waiting for the M1530.

I'm in a bit of the same boat as you, though it's the ASUS M50sv that I'm eyeing. I ordered the M1530 before I really looked at the M50. The M50 is really better spec'd and slightly cheaper, but the M1530 has a sleeker form factor and is undeniably more stylish. To me, it's sort of a toss up.
I plan on waiting until my ESD of May 28 and see what happens. If I get a delay, especially one of 2 weeks or more, I'll be cancelling and going with the ASUS.
I guess I'd say that it's not worth settling for a lesser (in the eyes of the buyer) machine just to get it a little sooner, but if there are two machines that are essentially equals and one is available and the other isn't...well, that's a no-brainer.
I do think it's ridiculous to have to wait a month or more for a laptop. And I don't plan on doing it. -
1:56:09 PM Agent XPS_AMB_Rep_Dexter
The back order problem was what we had last month due to the problem in color production and the hard drive. -
-
He assured me EVERYTHING is in perfect production, and they promise all laptops to ship out before or on their ESDs..
"We have no production problems at this time" is what he told me. -
riverside bandits Notebook Enthusiast
If so, then all we can do is be patient about it. At this point in time, speculation will not help at all. I am thankful that 5/28 is coming soon enough.
-
yeah, 6/5 needs to hurry up also. Im really itchin to get WoW out of 800x600
-
Of course the answer seems to be, don't believe much of what a Dell CSR tells you. It may just be a lack of information on their part as oppoed to deceptive intent, but it doesn't seem like anyone really gets a full or accurate story when they call.
As far as perfect production and all ESD's being met, well there's only six days left for them to get mine out and it's never budged from Build so I guess I'll find out soon enough. -
If it's the lack of information their communication must really be not so good.
I was told that the delay due to the 6-cell battery was lifted and my laptop would ship either yesterday or today, so far it's still in the infamous build stage. Of course the day is not over yet, but I'm highly skeptical about it being shipped today either. Oh well we'll see.
-
Honestly, I doubt that the CSR's really have a lot of detailed information about when individual orders will ship. They probably look at the same ESD that we do and say, "Yes sir, you're scheduled for shipping tomorrow," even though the notebook is still unassembled in China.
I hope yours ships like they said. Can't say I put much stock in what Dell CSR's promise though.
By the way, I just called the Order Status line and they said mine shipped and was in the hands of the carrier! I listened further and found that it shipped on...April 18, 2005. I'd entered the wrong order number. DOH! Talk about being crushed. -
-
Of course, what do I know since I've never experienced any stage except Build. Eleven days in a row now. Maybe someday the lady will tell me something else and cause me to keel over from a stroke due to shock. -
Im still in "Pre Build" on one page, and "In Production" on the other page.
In Production
Upon approval of payment for your order, the order will be In Production. Production time includes obtaining the parts, assembly or build time, and shipping preparations/transit to the carrier. Shipping preparations will vary based on type of order and size.
So they say on the sites glossary that the only stages you should see are Pending, Production, Shipped.
Just ordered the Dell XPS M1530... had a question?
