No, after they build it, they test it/box it which typically takes 2-3 days. After its built, its shipped stateside or UK or whether you ordered it where the QC takes place. Thats why it takes a few days and not hours.
-
7:24:04 PM XPS_AMB_Rep_Maricris yes there are delays on the stocks of the 6 cell battery right now.
They also said the 8300 is delayed. -
My DOP was 5/13, my estimated ship date is 6/12, I got the same specs as you except 9-cell battery. How in the world is your ship date 7 days earlier. XD
-
If you call the automated order status line at 800-433-9014 and key in your order number, you'll get a more detailed status. For example, mine is In Production and in the Build stage. On the web site you'll just see In Production.
-
When I call the automated order status number later on after the Build stage it should say something like "Your order is currently In Production, and is in the Testing stage / Boxing stage...?"

I wish you wouldnt of told me about that number, now I know I am only in "pre build"
Pre build after 4 business days? Why did I pick Dell... -

Thank you. Your Dell Chat session has ended.
And... that number he gave me didn't help at all, the rep I talked too on the phone was very rude. After he told be basically everything I already knew about my order he says, "Dell cannot expedite your order, Thank you for your call." Big silence................ Me: "Ummmm, hello? Is that it?".......... Rep: "Yes sir, thank you for your call.".............. Me: "Alright....?!" ......then I hung up.
Why are they so rude on the phone??!! Very unprofessional and disappointing. -
So in other words, I might as well cancel my order today since there's no way they'll make my ESD if no progress will be made between today and Tuesday. And his simple parroting back of your ESD (as opposed to actually having access to up to date info) confirms my suspicion that CSR's exist merely to get you off the phone and have no legitimate information or insights into anyone's particular order.
I might be more understanding about things like this if Dell actually kept you informed about the REAL status of your order. But this concept of taking your order (with no particular warnings about backorder issues) and then simply keeping you waiting for in indeterminite length of time and never offering a legitimate schedule is BS. -
Actually, something interesting I should have posted earlier. After I called the reference number the rep gave me on the dell chat, the rep on the phone I spoke to said, "It's not that Dell will not ship orders on Monday, it can very well be shipped Monday." But, I doubt if the rep knew it's Memorial day holiday, even further concluding how idiotic the dell reps are on the phone. This whole situation is very annoying!!
-
For kicks I went into a chat with "Christian" and asked for an updated order status. He claimed there are NO parts shortages and that my order will ship on time (5/28). When I questioned how that would be possible since it's Friday afternoon and it's still stuck in Build after 12 days and that a holiday weekend was approaching and no further progress would be made until next Tuesday, he said "I guarantee that it won't be delayed." And when I asked, "OK, then what if it is?", he just said, "call customer service an ask why."
In other words...he had no idea about the actual status of my order, yet "guaranteed" me that it'd ship on time, despite the near impossibility of that happening. And if it turns out he's full of it, my option is to "call customer service and ask why it's delayed."
Why bother with customer service if all they're going to do is spoon feed you BS that you both know is BS? If he can't tell me whether or not my order will ship, that's fine, why not just admit that? Why PROMISE me something when he has no idea whether it will actually happen? -
They really need to change the way they handle orders and answer important questions truthfully when a consumer asks.
-
I think they really should change the way they handle things at Dell. Amen!
-
i understand the frustrations of everyone, im hoping my notebook ships on time as well, but realistically the reps probably dont have a whole lot of information on what orders will and will not go on time, i would probably be sure that as soon as your order is updated its updated on there end too. 2nd from what ive read it seems the delays are pretty well isolated to the 1530 which is in mega huge demand at the moment. I for one and am going to try and be as understanding and patient on the matter as possible as many as you have been as well, but i think sometimes we just need to think about what these reps actually know. from a professional stand point they can not tell people information they do not know. they cant say your order will be delayed if it does not show it being delayed because in reality if there is no delay and you tell all those customers that there order will be delayed thats alot of complaints to deal with for no reason, just my worthless .02 cents, but hey i was bored and felt like typing a bunch of jibberish
-
Dell is fine, personally I could care less about their customer service regardless of how many mistakes and annoying practices that they have. All I expect from dell, and always will expect, is a good unit. If my laptop comes in perfect condition no problems at all, I am a happy camper. I've ordered twice before from Dell and the laptops were both PERFECT. Though I admit the late ESDs are kinda making me nervous, I just hope I won't have any problems.
keep in mind that despite there are people who post problems, there are plenty who don't and chances are, most people who are browsing the forums are looking for answers and have problems of their own. meaning, there are plenty of units out there with no problems at all. -
Well, I agree with that, and I'd have no problem if the CSR I chatted with had told me as such. But instead he assured me that my order would ship on or before my ESD. When I pressed him on how Dell could possibly meet that date given the current status, he said, "I promise it will ship on time."
I'd have a lot of patience for a poor CRS who simply couldn't tell me what I wanted so long as he was honest about it. I have no patience for a CSR who simply makes up whatever he thinks I want to hear just to get me off the phone.
BTW, are you a home brewer? -
I would have to agree with that statement. I love Dell. I have ordered four desktops, two laptops, and a game from Dell for the past seven years. They have ALWAYS either been on-time or early. This is the first time that it is possible that Dell cannot meet its expected deadline for shipping on the laptop. When I started browsing the forum on M1530 issues, I quickly found out that maybe Dell is going to delay my order. I though I was immune to it because I thought two weeks was a darn long time already. I could have never guessed that it would actually happen. I thought the head honchos at Dell would have already meticulously calculated that the M1530 would be in super demand. I guess they let that one slip this time.
-
Hi,
I am new to this forum, but have been reading it for a couple of days.
I ordered a xps on 5/5/08 and the est. ship date is 6/4/08. It has been in the production stage forever.
It is pink
Intel Core 2 duo procesor T9300
15.4 inch lcd true life screen
4 GB
7200rpm SATA hard drive
They say the latest it will arrive is 6/11, which is the day before I leave on vacation. I am already getting nervous. I really figured it was coming early, and I am still hoping it will.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello and be around other computer people. My
husband does not understand, he says it is only a piece of plastic. -
Welcome to the board. There is a chance it may ship early...but i've been waiting for a month now. Mine is supposed to ship by Wednesday...but I really doubt it will.
Welcome, and good luck! -
Do we know for a fact that no Build progress happens over weekends and holidays? I'm due for shipping Wednesday as well, but if in fact we're stalled in our current status until Tuesday, that'd seem a virtual impossibility.
I wish I'd written down Dell Rep "Christian's" (this guy's name was "Christian" about as much as my name is Rumplestiltskin) phone number so I could call him up on Wednesday and ask him personally for an explanation.
-
Build progress happens haver weekends and holidays since its assembled outside of the US for sure.
-
Oh great. That means I can't take the weekend off from calling the stupid status line. And worse, you've given me (probably unfounded) hope.
A pox on you Forte!
-
Depends where its being made. My laptop is apparently being built in Texas so I doubt that its getting screwed together today.
-
How do you know this? I thought they were all made in Malaysia or Taiwan.
-
What kind of laptop are you ordering that it's made in Texas? I didn't know they made anything here is the US.
-
Its most likely Dell Outlet.
-
I thought I read somewhere that they still make PCs here in the US. I guess its smallscale in Texas, but I thought they only made Optiplex PCs or something like that. They don't make laptops here however; they are made in Malaysia, Taiwan, or China, I think.
-
Well they definitely did work on my laptop over the weekend. Mine just moved from the build stage to testing today (Saturday).
-
XPS1530, or atleast thats what they told me when I called them Friday. My understanding was that it was also all overseas but perhaps because of the overload they're expanding production facilities to include their american location.
-
Might I ask when you ordered, chaospker?
-
Hey, lucky you. There's light at the end of your tunnel. Me...not so much
14 Days in Build and counting. -
you and me both brother, dont see how im gonna have it by the EDD of 5/29. sucks too because im going on a trip 6/1 and would have been nice to have it
-
The likelihood of this laptop coming on the 27th for me is pretty much the same as Hillary Clinton taking the nomination from Barack Obama at this point.
-
Damn. I just checked and its still in the "BUILD" stage. 14 days and counting...
-
Hahaha, Oh snap!
I have been waiting 4 weeks as of tomorrow morning. ESD of 5/28 could be possible...but I wouldn't put money on it. -
Actually, there's light at the end of my tunnel too, since if it's still in Build on Wednesday (my ESD) I'll be canceling my order.
On the other hand, I might almost be disappointed if it actually ships, since logging on here every day and whining about the wait has become something of a hobby for me. It'll almost be a letdown to get the actual notebook.
-
haha yeah i havent done much posting but definetly reading. when it finally gets here im not gonna know what to do with all my free time
-
I have nothing against either candidates. I would, however, like Clinton to win over Obama (which would mean my laptop actually ships on Tuesday), but each day that passes still in the "build" stage is one day closer to realizing that it might be delayed (which means Clinton taking the case to the DNC). I know that my state voted for Obama, but no surprise there: Wisconsin has a young, liberal society, but if I could have voted (I was 17 then), I would have cast it for Clinton. Anyway, I digress.
WHERE IS MY LAPTOP, DELL?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I was wondering if my laptop will run better than my computer with the following specs:
Gateway E-3200 Series
450 MHz Pentium II Processor W/MMX
256 MB SDRAM 133 MHz
8 MB ATi Rage Pro Integrated Chip
Toshiba 2x DVD-ROM Drive
100 MB Zip Drive
10/100 Mbps NIC
1.44 MB Floppy Drive
10 GB Western Digital Hard Drive at 4200 RPM
Windows 98 -
Holy ****. Thats a speed demon if i've ever seen one!
I think my cell phone has higher specs than that
-
I dunno. Maybe.
It'll definitely run better that the 1st computer (real PC I mean, not some Atari or Commodore toy) that I bought with my own money:
Amstrad (don't ask) IBM XT Clone (IBM still meant something back then)
8 mhz (yes, 8 mhz) processor
512K RAM (Yes kilobytes...you could up it to 640K for a few hundred dollars)
dual 5 1/4 inch floppy drives (no hard drive)
CGA four color monitor
DOS 3.2, booted from a floppy.
Brand new for ~$2000. Ran the original Liesure Suit Larry like a champ though...but only in monochrome.
-
Actually, that's the old computer that I ordered back in June 1998. It's been sitting in the basement since 2001. I tried to install Windows XP on the machine. I timed the install. It took nearly three hours to install Windows XP, and it needed to reboot five times, so it ended up totaling nearly seven hours. One more hour to reboot again and "install" components of XP, and I was running XP!
Want to know my Dell Latitude's laptop specs (I am not joking):
166 MHz/88 MHz Pentium MMX Enhanced
128 MB of SDRAM
2 GB IBM Hard Drive at 4200 RPM (yes, 2 GB)
12" VGA screen
Oak Technology Warp 5 Chip
Microphone
Norton Virus Scanner (1998 Edition)
Windows NT
For fun, I tried to run 3DMark 06, but it wouldn't let me
.
-
My dad bought something of the sort. He used an external modem that had like ten lights. They transferred data at 300 bauds. He did research and ran calculations that took five days, where now, even the slowest computer that Dell sells will finish the calculation within five minutes. -
Those were fun times. I bought it in the mid-80's when I was fresh out of college. Owning your own computer was pretty novel back then. People would come to my ratty old apartment with my ratty old hand-me-down furniture and see that thing and would just ask, "Why would you want a computer?" They couldn't figure out the appeal.
I really wish I'd kept that thing, for nostalgia's sake.
-
About the laptops being built different places... when I was doing the online chat earlier, the rep said we offer worst case ship dates. It means basically that Dell will try shipping to send out the order asap, unless however they have a delays due to extreme weather like a hurricane or something of that nature in Texas.... the rep said Texas, so does this mean mines being assembled in Texas..... haha?
-
Yeah, they did worst case with mine when I placed my order... ESD of June 12th... though it shipped today, over three weeks before the estimate. Thank goodness!
-
However, they must have did best case with my order. lol.
-
my order is in production and went into the boxing stage.. so if it's in the boxing stage does Dell ship out the order the next business day or what?
-
Boxing takes 2-4 days. Planes fly out every day from Malaysia.
Packerd Bell
100mhz P1
1GB HD "You'll never use one GB of space!"
I was too young to even know what a Display Adapter was back then. I know it ran Theme Park. Those were the days.. -
the dell rep i talked to today said that dell ships out orders through out the day and that i should even check in the evening if it has been shipped... i asked if it takes a couple of days in boxing but he said it shouldn't... soo wuts up with that...?? haha
Just ordered the Dell XPS M1530... had a question?
