Okay, 2 weeks ago, bought IBMT42P. Too bulky!! Could not fit inside a bag that also holds my G4Pwrbook17" - still my favorite. Exchanged for IBMx40. With external CD/DVD drive resulted in more stuff to carry outside the bag. Read review CNET and PC World. Weight less than T42P, albeit less performance.
Dell rep told me that the 700m is less bulky and lighter. Sold X40 to associate. He's happy and hopefully I will be too. Question: Does WordPerfect (included) work well with MS Word? I will be training in the Window world next week (Mac 1st always) and am wondering if I should go full blown on putting out over 400.00 for the complete MS office 2003 package? Any advice? Someone told me to track down the "basic" version of 2003 Office for half. Anyone use that version? Any suggestions would be most welcomed.
Thanks.
Sincerely, Macmac

Dear abaxter:
Thank you! Ebay got some great bargains. I am wondering how they will ask me to prove if I am a student or whatever when I bid on that version...I walked into an Apple store and plunked down for Mac Office2004 Student/Teacher edition (I was neither) and no questions asked. I guess it was an honor system - which I abused, but I forgave myself because I have purchased over 4 Pwrbooks since my first Pismo2000. All of these are now 17" aluminum models- the "old" ones (1GHz to 1.33GHz) serve as desktops and the 1.5GHz my daily companion.
Due for delivery sometime near end of August 2004. Will drop a line when I get it. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Macmac

hey Macmac, congrats on your purcahse, let us know how the Inspiron 700m works out when you get it.
WordPerfect allows you to save in MSWord format, but IMHO it's nowhere near as nice as MSWord 2003 even...MS Office XP is really nice. Your friend is right that the basic version is going to be cheaper than the full blown office suite, I might suggest using eBay and purchasing from a well rated user:
http://search.ebay.com/Microsoft-Word-2003_W0QQsokeywordredirectZ1QQfromZR8
that's a search that'll reveal MS Word Basic 2003 sellers.
If you happen to be a student/teacher or involved in academics the academic version of MS Office is much cheaper and has most of the same features.
Just purchased Dell700m(1.5GHz), need suggestions
