    Hi there,
GREAT FORUM!!! I've learned a lot by reading through the posts. I ordered from dell's outlet an m1210 which is due to arrive today. It was a "Previously Ordered New" that's fully loaded, and came out to be $700 less than its "new" counterpart.

My question is when was this laptop made? Below is the display from the service contract page for this computer:

    System Type: XPS M1210
    Ship Date: 10/28/2006
    Dell IBU: Americas
Description Provider Start Date End Date Days Left

    Complete Care DELL 8/1/2006 7/31/2009 1001
    Limited Technical Support DELL 10/28/2006 10/28/2007 359
    Next Business Day DELL 10/28/2006 10/28/2007 359
    Next Business Day DELL 8/1/2006 8/1/2007 271

    Technical Support - Phone Assistance 8/1/2006 8/1/2007 271
    Technical Support - Phone Assistance 8/1/2007 7/31/2009 730

The 10/28/2006 start dates go along with when I purchased this laptop from the outlet site. But, if I'm reading this correctly, was my laptop originally ordered and manufactured on 8/1/2006? The computer has the C2D Merom T7400 processor which I didn't think became available until September.

Well, in anycase, is there anything for me to worry about? I find it hard to believe a "Previously Ordered New" m1210 was sitting around at Dell for 2 months or more -- or maybe it was?

    thanks,

Just got off the phone with Dell -- absolutely useless! I guess I'm not too surprised but I expected maybe some amount of helpful info. which the service rep. couldn't provide. When I get the computer in I'll test it out.

You probably have one someone bought, broke and got returned to be refurbished
If you have the service tag and it is the original one you can probably call in and ask about hte service history or check online for it

"previously ordered as new" is not the same as "certified refurbished"; ordered as new has never seen the hands of a customer, certified refurbished has.

That's why ordered as new is more expensive at the outlet. Usually the computer has been built and then the customer decides that they no longer want it.

I don't know about the OP's question, but should it really matter? As long as I had have a full & complete warranty, I wouldn't really care when it was built.

I went to a Dell Outlet store in the Mall to look at the 1210. When I said I was interested in one they logged online and went through each option just like I could at home. He said, he would knock off 150.00 are these new machines or reburbished ones. Other then seeing the models in person what benefit is ordering laptop from them and not just online?
