Everything looks okay so far except for an anomoly on the bottom right and left bottom corners of the display. It looks pinched going out directly from the corner points about 1/8 of an inch and the desktop color there is greyed out a little. The top corners are fine. It looks like the display frame is pinching the bottom corners of the LCD. Anyone else have this issue?
Hard drive (100GB at 7200 rpm) making intermittant scraping noises as well.

Do you have an LG screen? If so then this is normal. Can't comment on the hard drive. I didn't get that particular one. I opted for the 120GB 5400RPM option.
-
Thanks for the information. How can I tell if I have an LG screen? Is the LG display better than Samsung? It's not that noticable because the toolbar is down there which is a good thing. Overall I really like the brightness. It blows my Sony LCD desktop monitor away.
Do you have an LG screen? -
mine is supposed to arrive today!!!
I just hope it arrives before i have to leave for my first class.. -
You won't be disappointed..
-
My e1705/9400 is supposed to come today to but i dont get it to christmas.

you have to have your Dell's service tag registered in support.dell.com and then you look up the Original System Configuration.
The line entry that tells what your screen is should look something like this:
YD477 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17, WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., LG PHILIPS LCD
That one is my screen info. -
Thank-you for the information.

Kinda put a damper on recieving an otherwise decent notebook. -
TehStranger, yep my LCD Display is the LG Phillips.
ruffryder1167, I'm so sorry to hear about the display. It must be so disappointing. That woud make me sad for a week. I hope Dell makes it right for you. I wish I could say something to cheer you up... -
Had mine for a few weeks now and it has not been off. Runs great. I have the corner thing but at $1500 for this notebook I could care less. Running Far Cry on Full and FS4 as well. I cant imagine what more I could get or do had I spent more then $1500. Well maybe some red lights where the speakers are....
BTW the 100 GIG 7200 is quiet in my machine. -
Hey guys hope this isn't really a thread crap, but I was wondering how Dell was for your orders reguarding shipping. I ordered my 9400 the 5th with similar specs (t7200, 2 gig 667 ram, 100 gig 7200, 7900 gs, wuxga, etc), and it said my estimated ship date was the 19th. My big problem is I'm flying home for the holidays on the 23rd, and it's planned to arrive either the 22nd or the 26th. I was hoping to bring this new bad boy with me but I don't know Dell's history with shipping on time. Did you guys get a break in the time to ship, or was it right on time and accurate with receiving it? Thanks!
-
check your ups tracking number when you recieve it. According to Dell mine wasnt supposed to arrive until today. However it came in a day early
-
Cool, thanks! Hopefully they get it shipped out earlier than expected, if not only a day (so it doesn't have to expand into the 26th)!
-
Mine came a day late so its probally +-1 day.

kingfrog77,
you sure did get a great deal on that notebook. Mine was $2091.xx out the door (34% in total discounts) and I thought I got a great deal. The LCD corner thing isn't bothering me much now and I'm getting used to the hard drive. One other thing I noticed is when the lid is closed, there is a slightly larger gap on the right side. Not enought to return it though. I'll have to check the rubber pads and make sure they're in all the way.
I have the 3 year with accidental coverage warranty with added significantly to the price. -
update: the guy from dell's third party in home repair just left. The E1705 is working wonderfully. Just one more good point for Dell's customer service and TEch help
-
Glad it all worked out.
Just received my E1705
