Got my laptop delivered today. I ordered it 2 days before the LED screen came out. It was too late to cancel the order as it had already been shipped. I spoke with the customer service and arranged them to build me a new laptop with the addition of a LED screen, and 250 gig 7200 RPM HD as a bonus.
Lucky for me I don't have to pay a re-stocking fee or delivery!
Who else here returned a perfectly good laptop for a new LED screen?

That's just toying with fate right there. If you get a good Dell laptop on the first try, you darn well should keep it.
-
If I am going to spend all that money to get a laptop. I might as well get what I want. IF my new laptop has any problems I will just send it back and get them to sort it out again. I also got the 250 gig for the same price as the 200.
-
I'm going to have to agree with Lithus on this one. There's no way I would return my current M1530 even though I'm still within the return period.
Mine is flawless and has a good screen. Why temp chance... -
When my laptop arrived the Penryn cpus got specced a week later, two weeks after my initial order. Did I return my laptop? Nope. The way I look at is there's always going to be something better being released tech-wise. I'll go crazy trying to keep up and returning things for 'better' things. It's counter productive, imo.
I'll ride this laptop out which I'm very happy with and when it's time for a new one then I'll get whatever's hot at that time. -
After it comes I have no plans to return it if anything "new" comes out. I just wanted that LED Screen.
-
So if Dell releases a 1680x1050 LED screen in the next 2 weeks you're not going to try to get it right?
-
^^^ Don't mind these guys, they're just jealous
-
Rhodan dont temp me
lol
No I wont be trading up. I don't mind the lower screen res. I should be good to go if I don't have any hardware issues. -
To be honest my 1530 after getting the LG put in is great however i actually have a higher up in dell i got in contact with through my whole fiasco which she actually extended my return period "until i was happy"
But as people have said there is always something new coming out the montevina revamps should be around in a few months as well.
That being said rhodan if the 1680x1050 LED does come out i will definatly exchange my unit. to me the screen is top 3 important things on a laptop so that slightly better screen would tilt the scale for me to exchange. Question is will they release the 1680x1050 led screen? I sure hope so!
-
lol, did you even turn on the laptop for a test drive before returning it?
I hope they come out with 15.4" LED-backlit WUXGA sometime in the future.... -
No I didn't even open the box, The thing is I got it shipped to Washington (my moms place). She is going to deliver to me when it arrives.
I live in Vancouver and wont be planning to visit Seattle in the next few weeks.
DEll Canada sucks hard. -
I gave LED backlit screens a try when I bought a Macbook Pro last summer. At least in the case of the MBP, the screens I saw had a problem with a yellowish cast that was noticeable on the lower third of the screen. It couldn't be corrected with color calibration because it was a non-uniform color rendition. I returned two of them and got my money back. Eventually, I bought the M1530 with CCFL backlighting. The color rendition on my LG screen is very good. I think eventually all LCDs will use LED backlighting, but I'm not sure if some of the current ones are ready for primetime. Hopefully, the panels on the M1530 will not exhibit the same problem I saw on the MBPs.
-
I guess I will find out soon enough. If anything is unacceptable back it goes.
-
I was tempting to return my first 1530 and get LED but lucked out for an LG screen on my second one and after I did a clean vista install I think I don't think I'll be returning it. Let us know how the LED turns out once you get it.
-
The issue is that not all LCDs are made equal. So a good CCFL LCD could very well be better than a poor LED LCD.
I think the XK309 or XD306 could very well be a good looking as a LED LCD.
I will take my M1530 to Future Shop this weekend and compare the screen with the LG 12" LED LCD laptop as well as to the Mac store to compare it to the MBP.
And anyone who's thinking the M1530 LED option is the best choice should have a look at the m1330 LED LCD Grainy? How do you know what's bad? thread. It's not all rosy on the LED front... -
Hey Phallus,
I also got a free upgrade to the LED screen and the 250GB 7200RPM HDD. I talked to you about this earlier I believe. I randomly got a free upgrade to the T9500 too. I didn't complain about that though. -
-
I don't think dell has been using LG LED LCDs in the M1330 so who knows what they will use in the M1530... -
To guys who ordered m1530 with the LED screen,
Wat is your est ship date? Mine is wed.
Having experience with dell in the past, they usually ship 2 days before the est ship date. So hopefully i can get mine this monday. -
my ETA is the 25th
-
ETA 24th. Wont see it until my mom visits me on that weekend
-
ETA 25th here also. Guess my plans are set for next weekend.
-
rhodan any news about the comparison?
-
ETA is the 23rd for me. I'll have two xps's so I'll compare the WXGA+ screen (1440 x 900) with the LED. Having the same resolution, it should be a fair comparison. I'll post my results asap.
-
can't wait! thanks

Alright,
I was at FutureShop this weekend with my M1530 1680x1050 LG WD306 and was able to compare viewing angles, brightness and whites with the following laptops.
LG P300, 12" 1280x800 LG LED screen
MacBook Pro 17" 1680x1050
MacBook Air 13" 1280x800 LED
This is by no means formal testing. All I did was place the M1530 next to each system, set brightness to max, walk around to compare angles and setup a white background to compare whites.
- The viewing angles were good on all LCDs. The P300 seemed to be the better one.
- The MB Air and P300 were brighter than the WD306.
- I did notice a slight silver in the MBP when compared to the WD306.
One thing I found quite interesting. The P300 is setup in a row with at least 10 other notebooks and it really is apparent it's the only LED in the row. When I setup my M1530 next to it you could really see how poor the other displays were even when compared to the WD306.
Having said all that, the only thing that really matters here is how good are the LED panels in the M1530. That will be the real test. -
Nice comparison. I really can't wait to see what the m1530 screens will be. I heard that the m1330 screens were Samsung exclusive? I'm not too sure about that, but I'll be sure to send you the model number so you can post it up on your top 15 questions
.

Sounds good Rhodan, we can only hope that the Dell screens are good quality.
-
I just configured a similar specced m1530 @ dell epp and its cheaper by $100 compared to the one i ordered last week. Thing is my order is still in production.
You guys think if i should Call dell and ask for some sort of credit? -
. It's worth the wait if you know you're getting it for cheaper.
-
Are you guys going crazy waiting for your laptop. I mean looking at video of the m1530 wishing it was in your hands. I know I am.
-
I would just settle on this fact:
Do you need the laptop now, as in right now, or you can wait for one for some time?
You know the tech/price game will never end. -
first i stalled because of the grainy screen issue and now i'll wait for the montevina laptops... arghhh it's killing meeee!
-
Buy when you need and enjoy it. -
There will be always something new over the horizon.
-
Help me decide people! -
But the rep said that she would put a expedite request for my order. So hopefully i will get mine early next week. -
Just returned my m1530 for a new LED screen.
