Biggest junk I ever owned. Both the laptop and desktops I purchased were in use by the on-site technician more than I was using them.

HP's are okay - Toshiba has been the best!

You registered to post on the "Dell" forums to share how much Dell sucks in your opinion without any justification whatsoever?
CONGRATS!! You officially have a life!

Actually Dell rocks!!! If you don't like it, don't tell us, because I don't give a bloody hell, I like what I like. And if they used the computer more than you SAY SOMETHING!

Don't discount his feedback because it's negative, that, as well as positive, should be encouraged.. Without negative feedback, the Dell company can't grow. Without negative feedback, the XPS m1330 wouldn't exist.

    Encourage negative feedback, encourage growth.

With that said, every Toshiba i've ever come across has been a buggy piece of junk, so I'm sort of stunned that's the machine the OP likes.

Thanks, Life Giver! But I did justify my opinion - I said the on-site repair tech was using (fixing) them more than I was using them.

The dimension desktop needed 4 floppy drives (I know - OLD but my business backup is small enough for diskette), 1 mother board replacement, 1 keyboard and 1 monitor. I was disgusted after the 2nd floppy.

The laptop lasted eight months and was fried after average usage.

You're right Anzial. Okay everyone, so I was considering the recent allegations against the administration-- it brings up memories of the Polk Administration and their..

Oh right, we're in a forum of a website dedicated to Notebooks. Talk about consumerist and trivial..

Unless of course you meant it's off topic, in which case.. it really isn't. He's is expressing his dissatisfaction with the hardware. What is more relevant?

42 would be the correct answer /geek/ /didnt event like that book/

Yes, it would be better if there were sub categories within the dell folder. "Dell" is a bit all encompassing for one of the world's largest companies.

There isn't one specific point... hence the dewdads (doodads). Not everyone begins a site as an expert, so please, don't bother attacking my chinsy, poorly written, pointless site. Seems to be the theme here, though. Attack the beginners! Did I miss that in the terms/rules? Oh, wait! I don't get that memo until I've posted at least 200 useless posts, right??? ;)

Ah hah! I got it! The OP posts stupid crap in message boards to get people to see his website link and click on it! I have to admit, it worked on me and I must say it is an awful website. And 4 floppy drives? That's gotta be BS, first of all Dell does not make the floppy drive, it is probably a Sony or something along those lines and if you've gone through 4 you must be putting toy soldiers in there. Toy soldiers might sound crazy, but my friend's 2 year old did it, and after looking at the OP's website I wouldn't put it past him.

Gee, how did I know you'd say that?

I never said Dell made the floppy drive, but the repair tech said that Dell isn't always compatible with standard hardware (floppy, sound cards, etc.). They did, however, have their name on the keyboard, monitor and motherboard that needed replaced.

I'm sorry you are taking my dislike for Dell so personal. I'm so glad to have been a means for you to vent your frustrations (however unfounded and misleading your statements).

I apologize for a bad choice of my original Subject line. It should have read, "Why I dislike Dell" or something less inflamatory.

lol he's made some valid, and objective points from his own experience. Perhaps you shouldn't have come into a dell section where we have pretty much all just bought new dells to voice those opinions though.

One good point that you made was that regardless of whether it broke..it was always fixed and i assume in a timely fashion.. Toshiba will not offer you the same level of service and niether will HP in my experience.

Hey Dew... even if you CAN fit all your backups on a floppy, I highly discourage it, floppies are just notorious for randomly loosing data.
Floppy is on its way out, (actually, it's already been out, for a long time). Instead of a floppy, I would trust my data much more to something like a USB flash drive.

I like Dell, its the only major PC builder with reasonable prices.
All those claims Dells have poor quality are wildly exaggerated, Dell is a computer builder they assemble computers, they don't make their parts. Its not like Dell is using crappy components, their HDs are from Seagate/Maxtor, RAMs from Infineon/Hynix, Mobo from Abit, they have surprisingly good PSU on the desktops. Out of all the major computer makers, Dell is the only company that can approach or even beat self assembled computer prices(when Dell have a promotion that is,, which is very often)
I couldn't care less about their customer service performance, never had a major computer hardware problem.

Well I must say I haven't been on these forums long (in fact I signed up because of the whole M1330 wait) but this is a pretty pointless thread.

To me it just seems like he wants to promote his site. Well we've all made some crap and frankly quite embaressing sites (well I have anyway) the point is I just learnt from them, I didn't promote them somewhere I knew I could get flamed... particularly if I thought it would be no use to people.

As for Dell being crap well I'll reserve judgement on that until I get my M1330. Their choice to use indian call centres was a bad idea though...

It's a little hard to give the threadstarter any credibility when he goes on a rant on how much Dell sucks, but turns around and recommends TOSHIBA as the best.

Maybe back in the day, like 10 years ago, Toshiba was good with the Tecras, but now they are bottom tier. The 3 Toshibas I've used over the last 4 years have been the biggest piles of crap I've ever had to use. Even worse than the Averatec I had to suffer through.

Now I've had some problems with my Dell units, but they've been no where as bad as the Toshibas I've used. And the problems experienced with Dell is pretty much on par with the experience I've had with HP, post IBM Lenovos, and yes even Sonys. Hell at this point I'd recommend Gateway over Toshiba anyday.

I find it odd how so many people bother to post and say that this thread is pointless; if you find it pointless, ignore it. That's not so bad though, compared to the reception this guy's gotten. Sure he's new, and yes this topic is rather sub-par, but it's disappointing how every other post is a flame or an unfounded allegation ("LOL he's only here to advertise his site!" -- he only mentioned it answering someone else's question about it...).

To attempt to steer this back onto topical ground, I'd point out to the OP that it doesn't really seem like the problems you have are necessarily Dell's fault. You even said yourself that the Dell serviceman was a nice guy :p. As others pointed out, the parts in the machine itself aren't manufactured by Dell, so you can't pin the blame there.

If you're turning to another company for better hardware in your machine, you're likely to be disappointed. If the build quality of the machine itself and/or the service is bad, that's a legitimate reason to switch. Although Toshiba might not be a good place to look...

I didn't mention this was a couple years ago (2 or 2 1/2). My company was new then. I've graduated to thumb drives for backing up my client base - which I only do once per week now that my office is networked. My server backs up to a workstation nightly. The thumb is for an off-site backup. A friend lost his data in a fire, so I thought it was a good idea.
