In short...a waste of a phone call.
It was almost funny. He said:
* The light bleed at the bottom of the panel is a FEATURE! It is supposed to be like that!
* The viewing angles are by design.
* There are better screens, e.g. the LG ones, and if you get one of them, just think of it as a bit of a bonus. You didn't, so bad luck.
Well, when I pay £1150 for a laptop I don't expect to pin my hopes of quality on luck!
Dell should REALLY stop saying "some panel manuafacturers exceed specifications". Rather, they should wonder why customers are complaining about the quality of their goods!
I didn't see mine against an LG and think "Oh mine isn't that good". I just saw mine by itself and thought the light bleed was bad and the viewing angles were bad.
They'll have you think that you are being unreasonable because the panel passed Dell quality control. Does it not occur to them that Dell's quality control is actually unsatisfactory?
I can understand why they are reluctant to replace components with better quality ones: in case everyone starts doing it and they are left with a pile of poor stock. However, I have two solutions to this:
1) Don't buy the poor stick in the first place
2) Offer the better screens at a premium. If I knew that I could get a Dell TrueLife ++ (read "LG") for an extra £100 I would probably do it. Not everyone would...problem solved. They could actually turn what is a support nightmare into a money spinner!
End rant. Phew that feels better.![]()

I like idea #2!
In any case; you should write a letter to EMEA corporate offices regarding your dissapointment. Have you tried talking to technical support to get an LG screen replacement? -
Yeah the guy said if they replaced the panel I would probably get the same one again.
Good idea re: letter. I'll extend my rant to paper. -
About the replacement; look through these forums. The dell alphanumeric part number for the LG screen is definetly listed in one of the threads. Call tech support and ask them to replace the screen with that part number. You may have to be adamant, but when they create the DPS they can manually enter in a part number. They may say that you will get the same samsung screen, but if they actually input the LG part number, you should be getting an LG screen.
The con here is that the LG screens may be backordered. -

IF you are still in your return date, I would just return the damn thing and re-order it or just go with another company.

I just decided that very thing. So it was delivered on friday. I have 7 days to return it...an small business customer care closes at 4.30! They better accept it when I call first thing tomorow!
Just spoke to Dell UK Support about by M1530 screen
