I ordered my Vostro 1400 (it hasn't been shipped out yet though) and from what I have heard it does not come with any Vista disc, recovery disc, or any type of disc. However, I also found out that making a quick call to Dell and requesting the disc is not a problem with Dell.
First Question: If I called them up now saying that I ordered my Vostro (and gave them my customer number and what not) and requested a disc before I actually received the laptop, would they have a problem with that? I'd like to have the disc when I get the laptop.
Second Question: Just what is the Dell Vista Recovery disc? Is it like a normal Vista disc, but with some Dell logos, extra bundled stuff, and some customer numbers? Or, is it a recovery disc that wipes your whole drive, partitions and everything, then installs the recovery partition along with the OS?
I plan on dual booting Vista and Gentoo Linux (possibly triple booting XP, Vista, and Linux...though, linux will be my primary OS) and thus I would be wiping the drive and partitioning it to my liking then reinstalling Vista (without the recovery partition).

Hmm actualy the Vista Reinstall Disc is nothing but an OEM Vista Disc with a DELL Branding on the disc cover and nothing else.... You can do a fresh install of Vista without any bloatware stuff.... You can of course delete the recovery partition which is not needed for doing a fresh install....
And no DELL would not send you the disc until you get your laptop..... But mostly the disc will come along with your laptop dont worry
Just what is/What is on the Dell Vista Disc?
