My daughter has a Dell laptop which had a small bit of soda spilled on it today...the keys are now acting weird. Pressing the backspace key brings up letters and signs as does the enter key. This also happens to other keys on that side of the keyboard. Is there anything I can do to correct the problem?

The easiest thing to do would be to purchase a replacement keyboard. You didn't specify the model, but new-in-the-box keyboards are available for many Dell laptops on eBay. If your model supports a backlit keyboard but yours wasn't built with that option, you can also get that version.
Unfortunately, most modern keyboards are sealed membrane units and aren't openable for repair / cleaning. In any event, once the soda dries out and gets sticky, it is quite hard to repair.
