I'm getting either an Inspiron 1720 or a Vostro 1700 but I'm having a tough time deciding between the two.
I went to Best Buy to put my hands on a Dell before I buy since I have no experience with their laptops. BB only had a 1420 to play with but they had two (one was on display as an open box item and the other was new).
Anyway, the keys felt glossy and slick on the Inspiron. My fingers kept slipping off of them as I tried to type!
Is this the way the keyboard is on the Vostro 1700 as well or even the 1720 or did I just got a hold of a couple of flukey keyboards? I'm trying to narrow my choice on what to buy down between the two.
Also, I just happened to pass the locked up pitiful Dell display in Wal-Mart. They only had a 1520 but I noticed the finish on it wasn't as shiny as the one on the 1420 at Best Buy.
My buddy was with me and he agreed that the 1520 didn't look as shiny and, frankly, cheap as the 1420's they had at Best Buy. I tried to blame the store lighting but I even felt of it and could tell it didn't feel all glossy.
To be honest, I liked the feel of the 1520 at Wal-Mart instead of the 1420 and would like to know how the 1720 is...or even the Vostro 1700.
I want to make a good decision while I can use the coupon codes on Dell.com.
Thanks for some help.

the 1720 and 1700 are the exact same machine painted different colors.

Oh I know...just wondering if the keys are glossy on the Vostro since the silver is so shiny on the 1720. The pics I've seen of the Vostro make it look more like a matte finish and just wondering if the Vostro keys are "slippery" too, for lack of a better word!

Eh my 1500s are sorta a matte. Haven't played with an inspiron though.
