I just got my Inspiron 1525 and so far am loving it. I would like to keep it as long as I can. That being said, what are the key things one must do to their notebook to keep it going for years and years. Obviously keep it clean, safe from water damage and such, but I mean like how long to keep it on, how long to charge it, is it okay to leave it on over night, things like that. Anyone know from personal experience how to increase the life of a notebook? Thanks for your input!

Keep it cool at all times and shut it off when not in use (standby is fine)

Avoid excessive opening and closing of the lid to help prolong the display hinges. As Nizzy said putting it in standby when not in use is great for the laptop as well as it helps dissipate heat from the keyboard.

This is so true! ;) :)

Mine, being my first notebook..I am just really careful with it all around.

One thing is, I make sure the power cord isnt dangling *too much* (in case of tripping over and yanking it out very hard) *accident prone* at times.. :p

Oh, and only using Microfiber clothes to clean the screen, keeping it in a secured place....with no chances of being *knocked down*

Just some thoughts thats all.. ;)

    TLC....FTW ;) :)

    Cin' ;) :)

Keep it in the original box hermetically sealed in a climate-controlled dust free room. ;)

Don't use it and it will last you a lifetime.

Did you get the complete care warranty?

Right now I am careful with mine. As soon as I get a few scratches on it, i'm going to start being a little more rough with it. I am not going to mistreat it in any way, but because I opted for that accidental damage coverage, I will feel better when taking it places and stuff.

Keep it cool, don't drop it, etc. Good luck.

Don't worry about it too much. As long as you don't throw it around, its components will long outlast its lifetime of usability.

    P.S. It's *Longevity* not *Longetivity* ;)

Shut down after use. Do not leave it on for extended periods of time in idleness when you are not using it.

What about using the laptop with the battery and connected to the wall at the same time?
