I have a brand new Inspiron notebook, running XP, broadband-cable modem. My last desktop was slow, this computer is obviously much faster. The problem: I frequently get failure to connect screens ( www.google.com is not responding, check your internet connection; cannot find server at www.facebook.com, or request timed out). This is the same ISP and modem that worked on my desktop so I doubt the ISP has suddenly gotten unreliable. If I retry or refresh it may work. I would estimate I actually get to where I want to go about 50% of the time. I tried firefox and IExplorer no difference.

    Any ideas? Thanks

Is it your own internet or someone elses? What wireless channel are you using?

Do you get kick off MSN or any other services? If not, I suggest you scan your computer for malware.

I do not have wireless. It is a brand new Inspiron, plugged into the same cable modem I used for over a year, in my home. It came with the OS installed. This has been happening since day one (which was less than a week ago).

When I type in an address, or click any given link, I often get a message indicating that server is not responding, or can't be found. Absolutely no question of the wrong address, a refresh (or two or three) will eventually work. It can be anywhere, often within the same page, e.g. I can be reading an email, click on Next Message and get hotmail can't be found.

    Thanks again
