Well I was messing with my sisters inspiron 1501, and she has the mobile AMD processor 3500 1.8GHz. I found her laptop to be very fast compared to my two desktops [old, one is custom another is a dell]. I ordered the m1530 which has duo 1.5GHz, when I tested it out before going under the tree, I went to the "can i run it" site. When there, it said my speed turned out to be 2.93GHz [i believe.] Now I'm curious if my sisters laptop is also dual core. I'm not very informed on processors, so sorry for my lack of knowledge.
I'm hoping my laptop is as fast as hers. [I don't really remember from when I tested it.]
Thanks!

Your laptop speed is 2.93/2 GHz, or approximately 1.5 GHz. From the description you gave, it does not appear that her laptop is dual-core. Considering that hers is probably on a 90nm process and yours is on a 65nm process, combined with the fact that yours is on the Core 2 Duo architecture and hers is an older AMD architecture, yours is faster.

Just remember: Intel > AMD

If your sister’s is an AMD Sempron 3500+ 1.8GHz, then it is a a single core. A Core 2 Duo is much quicker than a Sempron even at lower clock speeds.
Equivalent dual core CPU by AMD is called Turion X2 (but even that is slower to a Core 2 at same clock speed) -
but AMD is cheaper than Intel:
Kind of a silly question..
