    Hi,

I have just purchased a 2 gig stick of Kingston DDR2 667 PC-5300 (KVR667D2S5/2G) i swapped it with a 1 gig stick in my Inspiron 1525 and rebooted. Expecting to see 3 gig i only saw 1 gig in the properties, I shut down and removed the other 1 gig leaving the 2 gig kingston in there. When I rebooted all i got was the Caps and Scroll lock lights flashing and the number lock light on.

Thinking it was faulty I tried it in an Acer Aspire 5101 I have and it works fine. I also swapped the the 1 gig sticks around and they work in the different machines. Some googling hasn't thrown many answers apart from the odd one saying they got some kingston 2gb and it worked fine.

    Any thoughts?

    Regards

    Darren.

Do you have the latest BIOS on your Inspiron? Have you tried the 2GB in the other slot?

    Hi,

Yes, latest BIOS A16. I have tried Slot A and Slot B. On it's own and with one of the other Hynix 1 Gig PC-5300 667 Sticks.
I also tried some Cosair Value Select PC 4200 from my ACER (even mixing 1 gig of PC-4200 with the 2 Gig of PC- 5300 works ok in the Aspire) works ok although not with one of the original Hynix 1 Gig PC-5300 Sticks.
As it works in My Acer i may just leave it in there and take the Laptop into a local shop and get it fitted before buying otherwise I'll end up with about 10 different 2 Gig Sticks before finding one that works! The anonnying thing is the spec is identical to the original, other then the size and make. Crucial even recommend the same spec.

    Regards.
