I paid for a XPS 15 (L502x) with i5 2410m processor, nvidea 525m 1gb card and 6gb DDR3 ram on 31st March using a credit card.today we r on the 6th and the status is still WIP(work in progress). There is a DELL manufacturing unit in sriperambadur,Chennai itself, As of today the estimated delivery date is not confirmed.Could anyone please let me know how long this process is to take.Isn't it too long a period for status to be updated.

I have ordered many times from Dell and 95% of the time it arrives before the estimated delivery date. The rest of the time it pushes close to the actual delivery date.

I wouldn't stress that your laptop is not progressing as you would like. I've read that some of the electronic supply companies that are in Japan have been affected by the recent quake. So some parts are now harder to get.

Don't worry you will get your laptop. :)

I am from India, placed order for my L502x (ORDERED : XPS L502X (Silver with Aluminium): 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz | JBL 2.1 Speakers | 2.0MP, H.264 Camera | 15.6" (39.6cm) HD (1366x768) WLED display with TrueLife | 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 2GB + 1 x 4GB) | 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M graphics with Optimus | 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive | 6 cell Battery) on 03/31, the status still at Work In Progress, the manufacturing unit is under 300Km from my location, its already 8 days and now the estimated date was posted yesterday as 04/20 :-( , The Estimated Delivery Date 4/20 has been removed from the status today and it has gone back to the original message of 3 business days to inform you of your date...blah blah blah..... what is happening :-(

You should call Dell's customer service in your area. They will give you an idea on what's taking so long. :)

This was booked under EPP, so called my friend, according to him the demand is more so it will take about 2 weeks, but the EDD posted early was a period of 15 days. The Dell CS asks me to contact my sales rep, also I doubt Customer service works on the weekends, will have to call them monday..... dunno If I am the only one so obsessed waiting to lay my hands on this lappy :)

Booked my Dell XPS 15 L502x on 31/3 and got confirmation on 1/4, the EDD was set as 18/4 within the next couple of days and hasn't changed since. Currently the status reads 'work in progress'.

The Dell rep told me when I placed the order itself that since it was a new system that just launched, that it would take longer than the usual 7 - 10 days to be delivered.

Hoping it gets here sometime this week for the sake of my sanity. Am going quite crazy checking the status every chance I get.

I ordered a xps 14 from dell website on 21 march 2011. After one week my CSR called me and said that XPS 14 is having some trouble with the configuration you have chosen. So he offered me a new XPS 15(l502x)
    Previous configuration
    1. l401x
    2. intel core i7 740qm
    3. 6gb DDR3
    4. 500gb HDD
    5. 2GB Nvidia geforce 425m
    6. 14" WLED SCREEN
    NEW Configuration
    1. l502x
    2. intel core i7 2630qm (2 generation)
    3. 6GB DDR3 RAM
    4. 750GB HDD
    5. 2GB Nvidia Geforce 540M
    6. 15" WLED screen
    7. 2.1 Sound system
Then it got canceled and i called my CSR he said"There was a shortage of parts." and they rebooled my order.
Now the Status is showing "Work In Progress".

Since this has been introduced only a few weeks back it is going to take time,
I am just hoping that mine reaches without any issues with any parts, then it is going to be another wild goose chase to get a replacement of the lappy or the part :frown: .....crossing my finger and too eager to wait for my system

You are still better off than me. I order a Dell XPS L501x back on the 24/02/11 which had an EDD of 14/03/11 after 2 weeks of status "work in progress" got cancelled because of a lack of parts. Then I had to wait for another 2 weeks for the system with a similar configuration to become available to reorder the system. Finally only got my system (XPS L502x) confirmed on 1/4/11 with an EDD of 18/4/11. Hoping it gets here this coming week.

No change post the last one, dunno what clearance means, it is yet to be shipped is my guess..... now the wait begins again, tomorrow's state election so everything or mostly everything closed and again day after tomorrow' statewide public holiday...so again calming myself from going insane :realmad:

I know exactly what you are going through. I've spent almost 2 months in anticipation of this laptop. Last time I was at this stage my order got cancelled. Now the sales rep isn't answering my calls. This not knowing when you will actually get the laptop, really does drive one insane. The fact that there are 2 holidays and a state election before the 18th can't help our situation. I think we will be lucky if we get it on the 18th.

Just spoke to my Dell sales rep. my build is complete and pending customs clearance.

Dell site still does not reflect this (the change will reflect on Dell.com tomorrow)

Once customs is cleared he said I can track it via bluedart.com (should also to be able to track from tomorrow. Customs clearance might take longer coz today is a holiday so more items for clearance tomorrow)

If it does show on bluedart tomorrow morning he said it will be delivered by Thursday evening (assuming no holdups on the way. Normally takes appx. 2 days to deliver)

But he said I can definitely expect it by Saturday, worst case scenario by early next week.

After all that I'm not sure if that call was helpful at all coz I'm pretty much where I was all along... still waiting...

@vishnukumar I'm guessing that since your machine went for clearance yesterday you will get yours a day earlier.

Customs will not work tomorrow and day after, its saturday or monday, do they work on a state election day?...will wait and see tomorrow on bluedart, mine is sent for clearance last evening, but blue dart doesnot show any details today....Also when trying to find out the transit time on blue dart's transit time calculator http://www.bluedart.com/transittime.html irrespective of priority or door to door delivery ( Pick up date set as 13th or 15th april evening) the delivery date by default is 16th,meaning blue dart doesnot function tomorrow or dayafter....

Yup. Got back from work and it was there. Just getting done with updates and installations. This thing is a beast. Managed to play NBA 2k11 while it was still updating, downloading and installing some stuff. To get that game to run on medium settings on my old XPS I had to turn off all programs including explorer.exe

Did you read the note when you first opened it?

It said before using the computer. Please install the latest BIOS.

If you still have problems, please post it in the XPS forum section. Easier to get more help there.

I order mine about a month ago and got it about 10 days ago. I know it was built in India coz there was a shipping delay as a result of bunch of holidays in Tamil Nadu which held up the customs clearance. It had to go through customs clearance coz the Dell Manufacturing site is in an SEZ.

Maybe the new orders are coming from Malaysia.

The performance is insane. Really fast and smooth when using photoshop or rendering videos. I've played quite a few new games on high detail with max res and they all work fine (after I updated the driver from the Nvidia site)
The colour will blow you away. It is really nice. Took me a couple of days to get used to it coz its unlike any other laptop screen I have seen.

Although I can't say enough about the screen, one concern I have is that since images look so good on this screen, it might not replicate the same when I print those images or when I send the image to someone else.

Oh and I have had a Mac fanatic rave to everyone else about how great the XPS is since I got it.

P.S. The sound really is that good. I actually stopped using my creative 2.1 speakers.

My system is in customs. As per Dell Customer care, Custom clearance is required if system is being shipped by air even if it has been made in India.

Every system has to go thru customs, it takes about a day max, then straight to blue dart for shipment, places in north its by flight, for south its by road.

Got my XPS ... muxh before than expected date of 17 may.. exactly 1 week for delivery. But the backlighting on the keyboard won't turn on... 1 hour with tech support and they offered to replace the part which i denied. Whole laptop replacement would take 15-20 days... what should i do :(

Even if it does take 15 - 20 days I would suggest you to wait :D , you paid for a new laptop, it should be new, Dont change the faulty part, If it were me I would wait and get a replacement in mint condition as that is what I paid for. Again its me.
