    how can I tell what brand of LCD my 1520 notebook has?

    i dunno, but maybe right-click on My Computer icon than on Properties than on Device Manager and than on Monitor and than again on Properties

    If you go into the driver details for the Default Plug and Play Monitor, the Hardware ID should give you a code you can use to identify the display.
