I just got an E1705 and noticed a disturbing ripple effect on the desktop. There's an area about an inch across where the screen will ripple when I jiggle the computer. What's really strange is that the ripple doesn't show up when I drag windows or icons over it. I changed desktop backgrounds to see if that affected the ripple, but it didn't. I also restarted the compter, but that had no effect too.

Has anyone encountered this before? Should I return the computer to Dell?

Just to throw it out there. When i jiggle my 6000's screen as much as I'm confortable doing, the backlighting does seem to ripple, I think it's do to the viewing angles changing rapidly.

You however are talking about the picture of the screen 'dimpling' right? ...for lack of better way to discribe it. Normally that happened when you press the back of the lid.

If there's one thing I can say about Dell. Normally the screens don''t ripple like that. It really doesn't sound right if the screen is dimpling like your putting pressure on the back of the lid when you jiggle it (Unless your more like jarring it). You should have to actually cause it to do that. It may be a good idea to get it replaced.

This doesn't sound normal at all - the screen should never ripple unless you purposely damaged the notebook's screen. I don't get any screen ripples, even when pressing extremely hard on the back screen cover.

    What res. is your screen?
