The LCD on my Inspiron 9400 is recognized as a standard pnp monitor.

I was wondering whether the standard viewing angle is as low as it seems in my eyes on this laptop. If I move my head up a little bit, the lower half of the screen darkens in my eyes, and viceversa. Its a bit tiring for the eyes, even when just surfing the internet

My refresh rate is 59 Mhz and I can set it to 60.

    Is this normal?

What you are seeing is the limited vertical viewing angle of the LCD. This is normal, but some LCDs are worse than others.

The refresh rate has nothing to do with this problem.

Are you sitting very close to the display? This will exaggerate the effect of slight head movements.

Well, I'm sitting relatively close now, but I'm surprised that this limitation is so much more pronounced in a 17" laptop than it was in my 13" lifebook.

I guess I'll have to get used to it, although it seems that if the room is well lit, then my eyes don't suffer too much.
